Medium ruby just starting to show a very pale tawny rim. So fragrant. Succulent, savory mouth feel. Nicely balanced. Medium body. Soft finish. 100% Tempranillo from the outstanding 2010 vintage. 13.5% alcohol. From the highly respected Spanish winery La Rioja Alta, S.A. Had this at a Tapas Bar! The pillars on which the 5 founding families erected a winery in 1890 built a way of living, feeling and producing wines of the highest quality that continue to evolve. Not released until 2015, bright Ruby, complex aromas of fruit, spice and oak. 90% Tempranillo from 3 villages & 10% Graciano from 2 villages. Cherry & blackberry flavors, with a feel of currants around the core, espresso & spicy notes on mouthwatering tannins. Wow! Lingering finish. Will get better over next 15 years — 9 years ago

1968 Vina Real Gran Riserva Temperanillo. One of 3 wines we opened up for the lunch which Ash prepared at the house. Hard to believe that this wine is almost 50 years old. It drank beautifully- still a little bit of sour red fruit in the nose, but more predominantly forest floor, graphite, and meat. Not super rich in mouthfeel, possibly due to age? Great and fun to drink on a hot day. — 10 years ago

This one's from last Summer, but had to rate this amazing 1987 La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza. Beautiful light brick color. Cherries, spices and tobacco on the nose. Smooth as silk. Was in perfect shape and confirmed the quality and value of aged Rioja. Fantastic. — 11 years ago

1968 R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Condonia Rioja. Drank for family dinner in Napa. We decanted just before white wine was served. At first drank like a beautiful burgundy- raisiny, sweet, with a smooth finish. Unfortunately, the wine petered out a little quickly. Thankfully, we had the 2001 Casanova di Neri Brunello. — 10 years ago
