Well made wine, bristling with citrusy acid. Almost tingly. Lingers on the tongue. Seems like it would age very well - it's enjoyable now, but perhaps that searing acid is a touch overwhelming for me while it's still young. — 10 years ago
A classic example! Still has remarkable acidity, crisp lime and mineral character. I remember it being almost undrinkable in its youth. — 11 years ago
We bought this in 07 visiting the winery. Saved it until last night. Just about rightly aged. Lovely nose, soft tannin. It reminded us of why you cellar wine. — 12 years ago
Enjoying working through the back catalogue of Sarah and Sparky Marquis. This enterprise with their involvement broke up in 2005 when the Marquis's left to form Mollydooker. Dan Philips continued on for a couple of more years and but ultimately, this label failed in late part of the 2000s. And now, we learn this week that the fractures continue with the divorce of Sarah and Sparky. She has claimed control of Mollydooker while Sparky can't put out anything until 2018.
As soon as I had my first sip, this was classic Marquis. Amazingly, there was some heat here but this quickly dissipated. Long legs and maroon core. Black current and leathery from age. Tannins are beautifully integrated at this point. Amazingly, I think this still has some life in it as it was probably crafted for immediate consumption rather than 20 years of cellaring. — 9 years ago

Pale to mid crimson. Palate showing sweet cherry and plum fruit with spicy oak. Delicious now with short term cellaring potential. Proving once again how suitable Adelaide Hills is for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. (Also does great cool climate Syrah. ) — 9 years ago
I had this exact vintage many years ago with very fond memories. It was rich and almost purple blue in colour. This 1999 vintage has been sitting back waiting for another occasion. Now in the bottle for 15 years it has certainly changed from the experience I had in its younger day. Still has long legs yet now resembles a maroon brown appearance. On the nose it has a sharp initial scent that smooths of to almost a port smell. The palate is a light jammy flavour with blackberry and really rounds out to a smooth finish. Loved it years ago and still love it but completely different experience from the first. Wow! — 10 years ago

A farewell of sorts. For both this vintage (only a couple of bottles and I fear years left as this is reaching maturity) and to a co-worker and friend who will be headed to this very chateau to make the enterprise even better. This one had some deep flavors and roundness at this stage while still retaining its characteristic structure. A fine goodbye. Drink up! — 9 years ago
