Kiwi Gold

Bonneau du Martray

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1986

Great color in the decanter... medium gold with an enticing perfume. Notes of sweet Meyer lemon, apricot, gravel stone, tan clay, some mint, a little ginger and some sweet marzipan. Has an exotic and slightly musty (desirable) funk. Huge weight with great fruit and solid acidity in the mouth. Decanted for 2 hours before drinking. Awesome juice! If you Google “why should I age white burgundy?”, an image of this 35 year old bottle should be shown... — 4 years ago

It’s been great for decades. A bit of botrytis makes it exotic. I’ve got just one left.

Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1995

Tasted blind. Medium gold. Notes of lemon, dirty white stones, marzipan, some honey. Floral. In the mouth it shows its intensity with great fruit to match. Fine grained acidity. Memorable finish. Memorable wine. — 5 years ago

This is 16 despite the label. Awesome nose. Big cherry fruit, some sweet oak, mint, soil tones, and just an amalgam of intense fruit. Really elegant and juicy with lithe silky tannins and such purity. Terrific structure and top notch finesse. Amazing purity and elegance. Long finish and very chewy. I think needs 3-4 years and/or a 3 hour decant. Terrific focus and freshness. Stunning balance. Awesome. Lovely stuff. — 7 years ago

Deep gold to amber color. Beautiful clearly defined nose of green apple, hint of almond powder marzipan and buttered toast. Medium body with high acidity. Leads to an ultra long finish with mouthwatering fresh acidity. Really awesome stuff. Out of Magnum. — 5 years ago

Light straw gold. Attention grabbing nose. Notes of bright citrus fruits, wet stones, some coriander and a little bread yeast. Nice energy and sneaky power in the mouth. Still young and can gain more complexity with more age. — 5 years ago

Nice regal gold hue. Amazing pit fruit and wet stone nose. Plus notes of apricot, white clay soil, salty ocean breeze and some Raveneau honey on the finish. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Coats the palate with lots of fruit and fine grained acidity. I’ve had this a few times and this was at its best. Great Raveneau at age 30 is an amazing treat. — 6 years ago

Fresh, light gold. Bright and vibrant in the glass. Even more vibrant in the nose. Exotic, notes of lemon peel, wet river stone, petrol, slate, apricot and spice. Great rich fruit matches some impactful acidity. Long finish. This is great juice, still young, and has some more to give down the road. — 8 years ago

Light golden color, nose with cream and baking spices, fresh apple pie. Palate has gold apple, green melon, vanilla, little bit of oak spice. Little bit rich (partial malo) but not overwhelming. Boyz Raveneau tasting. From a very well kept bottle with a high fill. Light to med gold/straw color. More closed than the others. Rich and viscous in the mouth. Some heat in terms of the presence of alcohol. With air this really opened up. After 3 hours this was singing. — 10 years ago

Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 1988

Light gold. Looks young. Took 5 hours to open up and show its stuff. In hour 6 this was cruising. Saline and sea shells, wispy lemon fruit, some honey, some white stone. The guesses from the fellas were 2002 Rav Clos and 1996 Rav Valmur. Shows how these properly stored aged Raveneaus can age effortlessly. — 5 years ago

Tour d’Argent. Surprisingly young color, light gold. At first it’s soft and delicate. With air it shows notes of citrus, tan spice, white clay, minerals and some cardamom. Starts with great fruit and has structure and acidity that builds with air. There’s a sweetness that stays with it over 3 hours. Great wine. — 6 years ago

Consumed 12/2017. Full rich flavors of berry, Cassis and black cherry with hints of vanilla in the background. Clos Ste. Hune Alsace Riesling 1985

From a great looking bottle with high fill and perfect cork. Yellow gold and heavy weight in the glass. Bright tropical nose with notes of citrus fruit, river stone, petrol, clove and orange peel. Nice and round in the mouth but still with great acidity. Coats the taste buds. This was better in the first two hours than when compared to the last 4 hours. Paired well with cold heirloom tomato gazpacho soup. — 9 years ago

From the Tour dArgent wine list. FnA. This is amazing Chablis. Light to med gold. Closed at first. Just wait... There it is. Kermidgean white soil and white rock stone. Shell bits. Over 3 hrs this built into that honeyed mineral stone pit fruit thing that is aged Raveneau. It's what got me interested in Chablis. It's why that disease continues. — 10 years ago
