An 02 spatlese that is rocking on thanksgiving. Burg schlossberg is my favorite rheingau vineyard and this example by August Kessler is on point. Fusel, marmalade, and golden raisin on the nose with a fruity yet dry mid palate. Nice long finish — 9 years ago

When I tasted the new vintage, I told Dan his winemaking skills have gone to a higher plain. 100% estate fruit. Dan has constructed a pure, beautiful expression of what the Sta. Rita Hills is all about. Touch of earth, mushroom, chalky earth, strawberry. 100% consistency, with a touch of cedar, smoke. Such a beautiful combination of site and winemaking. — 10 years ago
