What a surprise! Thought this wine would be too old...wrong. Thought it would be sweet...wrong. Thought it would undrinkable...wrong. Wow! Super impressed with what San Bernabe Vineyard can do with Malvasia. Fresh, dry, star fruits, floral notes, stunning...I wish I had another bottle. — 7 years ago
08 vintage - decanted for 2 hours & it is just a great blend of fruit, wet rock, with a smooth mouthfeel. A slight tobacco & pepper finish. It's velvet & pairs exceptionally well with creamy stinky cheese. — 7 years ago
Succulent and subtle, great taste with a strong smooth tannic finish. — 8 years ago
Red and blue fruit, a little spice and a tiny bit of leather. Love Ken’s wines. — 6 years ago
Maybe there's some $2200 Oakville Cab that's more deserving of a 9.9. Chances are I'll never get to compare. This wine cost about $50 and it gives me blackberry, licorice, and access to a long-ago memory of smoking cigars with my dad. — 7 years ago
Floral & citrusy with some nice weight. — 7 years ago
Plenty of life left in this one. Delicious! — 7 years ago
Not a Kenneth Volk but a new Pinot in the Calera lineup. Very nice now, but with a few more years, it will be even better — 8 years ago

Im lifting the average score for this wine and I think it’s deserved. I get slight florals and fresh funky herb aromas, red and blue fruit on a medium body with nice grippy tannins and an acidic punch. Lotta complexity for a bottle at this price. — 6 years ago
great wine easy drinking — 6 years ago
While, my experience buying this wine at Flatiron Wine and Spirits here in the city was less than desirable (Staff needs to get up off their butts, walk away from their computers and actually engage customers who are eager to explore this well-curated store!) Me want more of this wine! Now I know why Kenneth is so obsessed with them! — 7 years ago
OMG. This is my perfect wine — 7 years ago
The James Berry Vineyard was planted in 1981, but didn't have any Syrah until 1990, so this would have been one of the first productive vintages from those vines (some Syrah from the San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey was blended in as well hence the Central Coast designation.) Kenneth Volk was the winemaker for Wild Horse at this time and he did a really nice job. Clocks in at an un-Saxum-like 13.1% alc. Just starting to brown at the rim. Refreshing acidity and fresh dark fruit profile with nice savory and tertiary notes. I'd place the peak for this a few years ago, but still drinking well and a nice conversation piece. — 7 years ago
Fairly spicy. Good fruit but not overwhelming. Pretty good balance, but still on the fruity side. Slightly light on the body. — 8 years ago

Has matured into a ⭐️! Heavy weight, glycerin-y with slight oxidation. Nice almond and dried orange rind. On the finish there is a burst like when u bite down on a white grape. Excellent wine and compliments cream sauce pastas. — 6 years ago
