Not nearly the syrupy fruit bomb you might expect from a zin. The fruit played second fiddle to a delightful earthy component, all delivered in a super smooth package. I thought it would pair well with a steak, but it ended up being better as a sipping wine after dinner. — 5 years ago
Nice with a great blend of fruit and tannins — 6 years ago
Wonderful for the price. Enjoying it at Bistro Bobette, celebrating Julia. — 7 years ago
Another great wine from Justin Smith, this is significantly more approachable than when we last had this in January of 2015. Incredible fruit on the nose and palate, the wine is dominated by the grenache but what surprises me is the extent to which the mourvedre in the blend. Really terrific! — 7 years ago
My Final Four wine. Glass staining, opaque deep purple color. Somewhat restrained nose. Sweet blueberry/raspberry on the palate. Creme de cassis and licorice. Smokey, meaty, fleshy with notes of herbs and black pepper. Super concentrated and multi-layered. Just an enormous and stunning effort. Kudos @Justin Smith California Grand Cru. — 8 years ago
A bargain at $30 — 9 years ago
Raspberry and chocolate. Delicious mouthfeel. Incredible and delicious. The 2009 is amazing! One of the best bottles I've ever had.

Found this in the odd lots bin at Kadota's Liquor near my old high school in Hilo, Hawaii a few days ago. Freaking delicious! Earthy, cherries, but very high toned for a SB Pinot of this era. Wish I still had some of this in my cellar. Justin was killing it from Day 1. — 6 years ago
Very juicy red fruit. Incredible bouquet. — 6 years ago
Mellowed out nicely. 2004 in 2017 — 7 years ago
A nice Granny Smith Apple on the nose. Maybe a slight tropical fruit. Lots of tropical lush fruit on the front to mid palate with a citrus lemon zest on the finish! I really like this. Love trying new things. — 8 years ago
Boogie dark in the glass. Dark berry fruit parade. Licorice, lead pencil, graphite, flinty, crushed rock. Maybe a touch of seared meats. Monster huge, concentrated, layered but perfectly balanced. This wine has a sweet tannin that just seduces me. Suggest a 2 hour decant. My last 05. Please send more @Justin Smith — 8 years ago
Loving this. A crisp cool spring night in New England is making this port fantastic. What a treat. Pop 2 Life! — 9 years ago
The 2007 Booker needed about 45 minutes in decanter to really soar. Then BBQ meats and dark berry were present. I think decanting at home would have been best. After two hours it was very sexy. Nice work @Justin Smith — 9 years ago
Always good at our local haunts. Smooth, slight Meyer lemon taste. — 5 years ago
Solid. Good with Chinese dumplings. Round fruit. A hint of bitter on the finish. — 6 years ago
Another winner by Justin Smith at Saxum, the 2010 Terry Hoage is a nearly equal mix of syrah, grenache, and mourvedre (with a slight dominance of syrah - 46/33/21). The tannins are sweet and completely resolved, so the palate beautifully follows up the sweet blackberries on the nose with a seamless mouthfeel, lots of glycerin, and a balanced, lingering finish. Cannot imagine this wine drinking any better than it is right now. — 6 years ago
Great chardonnay that was a gift. Full body with a dry but mellow finish. — 7 years ago
Fresh blackberry, ripe raspberry, mushrooms, and wet stones. Fresh and elegant Pinot from Côte de Beaune, a region commonly known for its full bodied Chardonnay. Soft tannins with medium acidity. It pairs well with meatier fishes like salmon or tuna. — 8 years ago
