Very hot on the nose. cinnamon and caramel. Cut with a few drops of water and richness comes through. Amazingly long finish. Top notch. — 8 years ago
Another great Classic Wine Happy Hour in the books! Always a treat to have a designated day each month where guys can pull out some unique bottles!
This was courtesy of @Benjamin Keator and I freaking loved it. Felt like it was in a sweet spot. I believe it had been opened earlier in the day to give it some air, and by the time I had it, it was firing on all cylinders. Texture on the palate was excellent. Tannins were well integrated. Vanilla, blueberries, black licorice, cedar. — 8 years ago
I'm surprised this scores so low with other Delectablers. I find it spot on crisp, clean, mineral driven Chardonnay and quite interesting and weighty for the money. — 9 years ago
Dark fruit balanced through old oak showing light spice on the nose encouraging thought to nail a specific note but is remaining a bit of an enigma in my rock rattled head after a good day enhanced by 75 MPH Harley induced wind and the brilliance of Bose and an iPhone. Ok, back to the wine, it touches, lightly grabs spreading its dark berry mini-burst in a layered earth touched tannin slow ride making magic with some of Chapel Hill's Bin 54's straight up amazing goodness (in this case very rare filet mignon, garlic tinged green beans and almond slivers; my go to steak spot in NC). Damn, this is all so right-on! Cheers! — 10 years ago
I’m in St Emilion and everything tastes good but this is pretty spectacular. Spicy and tight but not brutalizing my tongue. The nose is that perfect combo of leather with dried fruit. Could use a few years. Like another 4-5. Tastes like a 49 euro wine so if you can get the 14/15s for less that $40 I’d jump on it. Pre game for our dinner at the local hot spot down the street. — 8 years ago
Pretty good. Definitely budget friendly. I've had a few too many stellar old world riojas lately that this doesn't compare to. Anyhow....
Baked raisin on the nose. Smells cooked but it's not cooked. Some soft dried fruits. On the palate...at first huge acid and petrol. Automotive stuff going on all around. After an hour in the decanter, the acid is dialed down to a gentle roar, demanding to be noticed but not taking over. Notes of eucalyptus, lilacs, dried bitter black cherry in the mid palate. Still very lively and certainly kicking...tannin has dissipated and the structure and flavors are quite harmonious. Definitely in a good spot now. Could go considerably longer, but I doubt it will improve beyond this. Nice value for Gran reserve rioja. — 8 years ago
Cheers from Bergen, Norway! An absolute picturesque spot for our vacation. Tonight, we visited Altona, a 400-yr old spot that has received 9 straight Wine Spectator awards for their phenomenal wine list.
I was shocked to see such a prestigious US wine on this wine list, and had to order a glass from this textbook vintage. Red currants on the nose and cigar box. Deep purple and long legs. On the palate, beautifully structured plum and cassis. This wine is GORGEOUS right now and has at least 10+ years before really peaking. — 9 years ago
Very nice. Heard some negative comments on 2007 Leflaive but this was spot on! — 9 years ago
Spot on amazing this year so layered so structured many of you have a lot to learn. This wine means a hundred percent mistake its taken way after most cote de Rhone with super high Brix. But it pans out perfectly he's got the right amount of structure light oak and distant layering!!! — 10 years ago
Asked for a buttery wine and this is what Ryan at Taka suggested. He was spot on and I love this wine. — 10 years ago
2005 vintage. Ripe and caressing yet showing positive restraint with still present and youthfully unresolved tannins. Ripe and nearly mature dark berries add baldness and balance on the smokey, mineral-driven and concentrating finish. In a great spot right now. — 10 years ago
Leads with mineral, finishes likewise, dark blue fruit, spot-on tannins

From a 375. The captivating nose soras with granite, dried black olive, bright green olive, toasted white peppercorn and dried morel mushroom notes that augment the black current and black raspberry fruit. The palate echoes the nose with lifting acidity and pretty floral accents. This bottle is full on in a great spot. If there was a touch more depth and complexity on the palate and finish this would be have been perfect. — 8 years ago

Still spot on good! — 9 years ago
Spot on for bellota and rich tapas; dry balanced with little fruit - 2012 vintage — 9 years ago
15 years on, this one is finally starting to come into its own. An hour or more of air is useful to get this wine to the sheer silky smooth Bordeaux that hits the spot with a nice char grilled flat iron steak. Jammy on the nose but not the tongue. — 10 years ago
Spot on everything you expect from grand cru leflaive - minerals freshness killer! — 10 years ago
Spot on with venison. — 10 years ago
My father-in-law bought a case of this on release and we have had one each year since. In the past this has always been very tight and structured. This year the tannins have nearly fully resolved and the wine is very fruit forward. I'm not sure that it's for the better, but this is still very enjoyable with a steak. I think in three or four years this may be in its sweet spot. — 11 years ago
Perfect match tonight with the beef we all ordered. Eduardo at DBGB took perfect care of us. This was his choice and it was spot-on. — 11 years ago
