What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome. — 10 years ago

This 1954 black Grenache wine is beautiful and rich and elegant. It is a superb food wine with roasted duck. Great acidity and rich deep fruit make this a wonderful food wine. — 13 years ago

1954 Bin 12 Grange Hermitage. At the end of its life. Still pretty superb. — 11 years ago
astounding. quite literally knocked my nose, palate and perceptions to humility and back. a half century old wine that was bright, lively, yet wondrously woven with earthy maturity and knowledge. a moment I'd like to experience again and again and again. yes. — 12 years ago
This held up surprisingly well. A touch of fruit left, mostly dried characteristics but soft tannins and good acidity. — 12 years ago

At 61 this half bottle still had strong ruby/purple color solid to the rim of the glass and good dark cherry fruit. Could this have had Pinot & Petite Sirah in with the Gamay? The tannins were resolved, maybe to much, and the wine did not have any gras left, but it sure was a pretty look into the past! — 11 years ago
