Pinot Noir that throws the hammer down hard — 10 years ago
Lovely concentrated chocolate nose and palate. flavor lingers forever. surprised such a young port would have needed tongs, as the cork didnt come out in one piece — 10 years ago
Proof that vintages on the floor of Napa do not represent vintages on the mountain appellations. Luscious tannins and firm acidity drive home a hammer of a wine. Chris Carpenter knows his stuff. Drink now but wait 3-5 years for a softer profile. — 11 years ago

Not quite the hammer! — 12 years ago
One of my favorites. Way too young at this point, but massive in structure. Will be a hammer of a wine in 5-7 years. — 13 years ago
Soft fruit, bitter cherry notes, very well-integrated tannins, a tad high on alcohol — 9 years ago
2009 in 2016. All red fruit, fresh, strawberry, cranberry, cherry and lots of floral, violets, roses, and lavender- muddy/cloudy interesting soapy aftertaste (and it wasn't the glass)- very little oak influence — 10 years ago
Shows Paso doesn't always have to be a hammer. The Pharaoh's would be proud. — 11 years ago
Definitely well named at least the velvet part. Might better be called velvet hammer. Very smooth and velvety, but really big on flavor — 11 years ago
Beautiful nose! Redolent of tobacco, leather, black fruit and a bit of livorice. Full bodied and full throttle! It's a big mouthful; a vvet hammer! — 12 years ago
Very good apero! — 12 years ago

velvet hammer. green in a good way. — 13 years ago
2002 vintage. Fairly and surprisingly on the darker side of medium ruby. On the nose, rich and coffeed. Ripe black fruited. Sweet smelling. On the nose, bit of a hammer to crack a nut. Seems over extracted. Good concentration and very long. But tannins are big and round and the wine is unbalanced for me. Drink now until 2030+. — 9 years ago
Beautifully balanced - embodies the velvet hammer SLV is famous for. Floral notes in the nose with leather and dark fruit. Palate is amazing- balanced throughout, dark fruit, touch of pepper on a lingering finish. Made the Christmas dinner one to remember. Thank you SLV! — 9 years ago
2005 vintage. At Texture. On the verge of deep ruby. Big powerful whiff of smoke, reductiveness, black fruits, sweet spice and Oakwood. On the palate rich and spicy, deep concentration, noticeable tannic structure. Medium plus finish. This is another big wine from this producer. Not really my style: hammer to crack a nut stuff. — 11 years ago
Fantastic. One of the best Heathcote wineries. Delicious — 11 years ago
Grandioser Riesling! Kräuter Würze, Süße, Säure. Perfekt. Preis Leistung Hammer. — 11 years ago
Inky black and highly extracted. Blackberry, licorice and mocha ooze from the glass. Layer upon layer of black fruit, garigue spices, penetrating minerality stitched together with piercing acidity. The ripe, juicy, thick fruit laden with a glycerin like weight hammer home an inexplicably long finish. #pasorobles #grenache #wine #wineporn — 11 years ago
