Las Alturas' Spanish for 'the heights', a fitting name, this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. 4th gen Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner from a family with farming and winemaking roots in Napa since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across, almost looks like a Cab). Rich berry flavors with cedar, spice and vanilla. Lingering ending with sweet oak notes. Consistent quality Nice! A Fav! — 4 years ago
It’s a bit unusual in the land of Syrah. But this estate is home to a little patch of old vine Gamay which does very nice things in the bottle. The wine has the bright, vibrant red fruits typical of the Gamay grape. But on the finish, there’s a kick of black pepper more typical of the Rhone Valley. It makes for an appealing combination. It’s complex, a little geeky, and highly drinkable – a mix that we find pretty irresistible.

Great quality Texas wine. I was very surprised! — 6 years ago
Super sweet! Tastes like grape juice can't even taste any alcohol — 7 years ago
Love the nose on this one. More fruit forward because of the blend of Merlot with Sangiovese and one other local grape whose name escapes me. On the wine list at Nonna. — 8 years ago
Joie Muscat 2018 — 4 years ago
Extremely complex and full of acidity. Aromatics of lemon, Granny Smith apple, basil, wet stones and rubber. The pallet features flavors of lemon pith, peach, green apple and slate. Straw colored and lively. Hint of fruity sweetness on the finish. Nice FLX expression of this outstanding Eastern European grape! — 4 years ago
100% Alvarelhão. Had to look this one up- an Iberian port grape, grown in Alta Mesa, SE of Napa. 12.5%. 100% spontaneous fermentation, 100% stems, 20 day maceration. all stainless. Hipster level is off the charts. FH continues to slay. — 5 years ago
March 3, 2016. Dinner. Top Ten wine of the month Feb 2018, and another winner from GD Vajra. 100% Freisa grape. Definitely unique, distinct ripe plum on the palate. Well balanced, smooth tannins. Yum! — 6 years ago
Great. Decant at least 30 minutes. Cherry with slight vanilla. Could use a year or 2 — 7 years ago
Hmm this with Tacos or any Mexican food would be great 👌🏻 — 8 years ago
M. Chiarlo’s Moscato d’Asti is also available in a 375ml which is a nice size to pop open after a nice meal. A slight effervescence wine with a light golden color. Aromas of sweet fresh stone fruits and citrus layered with a bit of floral spice. On the palate flavors of peaches and apricots with a grape-like character. Medium finish ending with citrus, sweet spice and honey notes. A favorite, great value! Grab a 750ml for a larger crowd! — 3 years ago
Lighter bodied with lots of raspberry and cherry fruit. — 4 years ago
Great expression of the revived Piemonte Arneis grape. Citrus, melon and peach in a very crisp white. Medium bodied and wonderful with a bit of sunshine — 5 years ago
Notes of grape. Got me drunk. 10/10 would drink again. — 6 years ago
What a merlot should taste like. 2014 on September 2017 — 7 years ago
Solid Nebbiolo especially for the price. A bit of tannin, a bit of pepper / spice, hints of cherry and (don't laugh) grape. Almost like a softer, fruitier petite sirah. Mellowed out after a day. — 7 years ago
Very nice, grape fruity , refreshing. Great to drink outdoors with light dinner. — 8 years ago

I think the Nebbiolo grape is my favorite. Very dry, firm tannins... — 3 years ago
