A great value at 20 US dollars. Brick-red, pronounced nose with a spectrum of red fruit and black cherry, leather, tobacco and truffles. Caramel and moss are very pronounced too. It may have passed its peak but nevertheless, it is still a pleasant Gran Reserva that is complicated and not tired at all. In the mouth, suave tannin with very accessible acidity, fruit, truffles and leather are displayed with a pretty lengthy finish on animal fur and caramel. This wine should be enjoyed the moment that it is accessible and without decantation, the fruit and finish will go down rapidly after an hour's decanting with more account of notice on alcohol. 87points. Dried cherries, craisins, sweet wood, sage, cigar box. Medium plus acid and tannin. Excellent now but shows real promise for aging. — 11 years ago

The white star of the evening, despite having a subdued nose of prickling minerality, lemon zest diesel kumquat and spice. Not going to be a real long-lived vintage, but may probably show even better in 5 years. Palate was explosive and concentrated to the point of pain, layered with fresh spicy kumquat. A lighter color than usual due to solitary old barrel use in this one, a bit lighter in body but by no means less potent. Outstanding blanc! 1991 vintage. — 11 years ago
