Extremely enjoyable, great substitute when you don’t want to pay 4x for the Barolo. Plenty of depth and intrigue here. Pleasure. — 10 months ago

Exactly what I am looking for in a Brunello. Lovely balance of fruit and acidity. Typical Sangiovese characteristics coming through. Tertiary aromas of mushrooms and smoke starting to appear. At a perfect stage for drinking now. — 6 years ago
Wonderful acidity, well balanced fruit, a firm finish. This is top shelf Barbera and a real delight. Bravo. — 9 years ago
One of last bottles I bought in 2004 in Italy at winery. Absolutely gorgeous nose. Cherry, floral, Coca Cola. Still has lots of fruit smooth tannins and great length. Drinking window by professional stated through 2015. Has at least 5 years in my mind. — 10 years ago

carbonic, there’s a black pepper, rich reduced red berries base. wild mix of bubblegum carbonic and black pepper. firm tannins. — 6 months ago
I might have had three glasses of this before I realized others at the table might want some of it. — 9 months ago
Crisp, tight dark red fruit that initially hid the earthy, forest floor flavors. It ultimately all integrated nicely in about an hour. Always an interesting ride with a Barolo. This one was 12 years old so we thought we didn’t need to decant….had to be patient instead. — 10 months ago

If I had rated this one the night I opened it, I would have given it a slightly lower score. At first, I caught aromas of leather and meat drippings and flavors of sundried tomatoes. A couple of nights later, the wine had opened up nicely and had more floral and spice aromas and flavors of red berries and earth. Needless to say, an interesting wine, indeed. And from the Canary Islands! Huh. 90% Listan Negro, 10% Castellana Negra. 9/1/22. — 3 years ago

Brought to dinner, opened and poured into a decanter just prior to service; enjoyed over the course of 90min. This was my last bottle of the 1994 Rosso del Bepi and I found it to be similarly sensational to the previous bottle that was enjoyed a couple years prior. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with a mix of ripe, tart and desiccated black fruit: brambles, pomegranate, Montmorency cherry, plums, spiced meat, ginger, old leather, dried flowers and just a kiss of VA. On the palate, the wine is dry (technically) though there’s some obvious residual sugar; medium tannin (integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. This finish is long. As I stated earlier, another outstanding showing. Drink now through 2030. — 9 months ago

12% alc. Margalagua is a charismatic parcel of the Taganan vineyard comprising 100- to 300-year-old vines on a uniquely iron-rich seam of rocky volcanic soil. This treacherously steep vineyard site is planted with a mix of mostly indigenous red grapes, such as Negramoll and Listán Negro, with a small amount of Listán Blanco. This parcel is about elegance and depth rather than power: due to the silky character of the wines, it is vinified differently with a much longer (30- to 45-day) maceration and 100% stem-inclusion, yielding a darker, bolder, richer wine.
[Vintage 2018:] “This vineyard has been vinified and bottled separately since 2012 because it has a very strong personality, not surprisingly, because it's one of the most fascinating and exceptional vineyards I've ever seen in my life. . . This is a translucent bright ruby color, and it's aromatic, floral, spicy and mineral, expressive and super fresh, because of the year and because they have new cooler vineyards. It has lots of notes of violets and lilies. The flavors are pungent, precise, clean, symmetric and very elegant, with refined tannins and a tasty, somewhat salty finish. This is the best wine they have produced to date. Truly word-class.” WA 98 (Luis Gutiérrez) — 4 years ago
Volcano Essence. Indigenous variety from Canary Islands. Fruity, Peppery and mineral. Bold and complex. Honest and intriguing . Rare and singular... Medium weight with mid to high tannins and balanced acidity. This is a serious wine for serious drinkers. This is a trip into tradition and knowledge. Masterfully crafted in Abona. — 6 years ago
