A real wow nose. Tar, roses, dark fruit. Beautifully concentrated and intense. Some iodine and salinity but a deep and gorgeous long palate. Amazing stuff. — 3 years ago

Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d'Alba 2017

Mid to light bodied with the classic tar and roses you'd expect from Nebbiolo but in the most accessible way possible. Very drinkable. — 5 years ago

Rabajà di Barbaresco Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2001

The essence of Barbaresco, a scintillating prism of flowers, tar, and fruit, it is outstanding but still with room for improvement. It had been double decanted at least a few hours before dinner, if I recall correctly. — 5 years ago

Nebbiolo d'Alba 2015

What a beautiful wine. Surprisingly approachable and soft for a young Nebbiolo, while still showing the structure and harmony these wines are famous for. For the money, a 10! — 7 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Serralunga grapes (as does the 2012 vintage), deeper fruit on nose, more spice/smoke/dried meats, really nice. Well balanced. — 7 years ago

Le Rocche di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

Give it plenty of time in the glass or ideally in a decanter. It is a beautiful wine that needs time to open. Great effort in an off year. — a year ago

Gallina di Neive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1990

Nice looking bottle, TS fill. Brought to Grasings in Carmel, opened/decanted 4 hrs before. Reddish tawny, doesn’t look it’s age. Wow nose. Exotic, attention grabbing. Notes of tea, rose petals, black fruit, some licorice and a little menthol. Ethereal in the mouth. Needed 5+ hrs to show its stuff. Had the staff standing in line for some shared pours. Great showing. At peak but bottles like this one are going to deliver pleasure for another 10 years easily. — 5 years ago

Interesting old Barolo (1964). Still highly acidic, a little bit pruny, but good leather, tar, and earth. Served first with a lamb ragu and tagliatelle. — 3 years ago

Another Wednesday Wine Committee in the books. Great hosting by @Bill Makens . 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine all served blind.

Had no clue this sparkler existed. I knew right away this couldn’t be French or American...zero yeast and hardly any of those bruised fruit notes. This was super thin showing faint key limes, wet rock, and honeysuckle. Floral. I called this young vintage Cava. Don’t think these are meant to be aged.

Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2000

BG barbaresco leads the pack. Round, rich, earthy, and full bodied. Great balance for the grape. Black cherry, cedar, and dried fruit. While not a top vintage, a benchmark that’s in its drinking window. St. Stephen will remain... — 5 years ago
