Feel like funky is too easy of a word for this wine, but it works. Funky/stinky nose, earthly funk and big red fruits on the palate. Definitely got my attention. Fun wine. And biodynamic too. — 7 years ago
Very good blend. Full and fruit-forward, a bit dry and good pairing with food. — 7 years ago

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.
It was my first time trying Moone-Tsai wines aside from their widely distributed Napa Valley Cab, so some of these were totally brand new to me. Melka is the winemaker.
Much more rich and dark fruited compared to the Howell Mountain. This is a blend of vineyards from Pritchard Hill, Caldwell (Coombsville) and St Helena. Very Pritchard Hill like on the nose with herbal crunch, savory graphite and cassis, oozing blackberries and cherry liqueur. Once on the palate, it channels its Coombsville fruit displaying a touch of licorice, candied blue and black fruits, baking spices and espresso. Big, but slightly more approachable than the Howell. — 5 years ago
Sehr würzig, ledrig, tabakig - fast als würden Cabernet/Merlot dem Blaufränkisch die Show stehlen. Dicht, kraftvoll, lang. Das Gegenteil von dem was man 2014 allgemein erwartet. Moderater Alkoholgehalt (13,0). Super ausbalanciert - Säure, Tannin, Alkohol, Körper in perfekter Harmonie, riesiges Reifepotenzial. — 7 years ago

This was my wine of the lineup for both now and possibly down the road. A great blend of the Howell (massive structure, chalky/dusty, big and ripe fruit) with the Cor Leonis (slightly savory, inky, herbal). This has velvet like tannins right now but they are really persistent. Plum, nutmeg, creme de cassis, heady display of the entire fruit spectrum (red, blue and black) jump from the glass. Slight addition of graphite, black licorice, and currant on the palate. Juicy, savory, decadent. Lots going on here. Very good. — 5 years ago
