Not sure is this is identified correctly, but age is certainly a friend of this wine. On the nose, we detect kirsch and candied cherries.
The palette, while rich, is not as flamboyant as it was in its youth. Black stone fruits meld with anise and a hint of cloves. Finishes dense and a touch sweet. Wifey rated this as 93 pts. Who am I to argue.

Wow!! Fantastic farmer fizz. Seriously hits all the right Champagne notes for me. Nose is concentrated and generous with rich toasted nuts, fresh croissant, baked yellow apple, and a truckload of crushed chalk. The palate surprises with much more precision than the richer nose might indicate, which I LOVE and makes for a really interesting juxtaposition. Hits you with a heavy dose of crushed chalk, which opens up to lemon meringue and crisp orchard fruit, which then gives way to a yeasty, croissant finish, carried from attack to finish with rippling waves of laser-focused acidity and a fine mousse of bubbles. That fine mousse and skillfully managed lees aging provides some nice body, although it's still very lively and nimble. Just... so fucking tasty. — 9 years ago
Dinner w Sunny and our friend Latonya, visiting from the US. The wine was in great shape and well enjoyed. — 10 years ago
This beautiful 2005 cab was an anniversary gift from a great friend of mine @Jeff Savigny The vintage is the year we got married. The nose is so complex and yet so subdued, it practically blew my mind. A nose full of roses, tobacco, dark fruit and licorice with a hint of molasses and vanilla. On the palate very dry, with a faint aged acidity, yet very rich and delicious. You can spend just as much time smelling this as drinking it. This was a near perfect wine and a great anniversary present! — 10 years ago
Lots of fruit as expected and a sweet streak in middle. Pretty good but a certain Belgian friend of mine might call it a fruit bomb — 10 years ago
An old friend in for the nightcap. — 11 years ago
Dinner contribution by a friend. Why? Because we need to drink it! A bold dusty expression of terroir. Bold dark fruit aromatics. Soft tannins. Dustiness speaks of terroir not flaws. Elegant and evolves after time in the decanter. Continues to open after 1.5 hours in the decanter. Good thing he has more... I want more... I need more!!!! What a true pleasure in a glass Thank you!!! — 8 years ago
An old friend of mine having been the first bottle of 1st growth claret that I sampled , sometime during 1999. Decent colour lightening at the edges but no more than that. Classic cedar and black currant , touch of truffle perhaps. Not hugely complex though automatically interesting at least. The fruit is quite cool and restrained though there is balance to the tannins and acidity. Decent length too. Overall and enjoyable wine though lacking the complexity and depth of a better vintage — 9 years ago
With my dear friend Ken Wegner. We graduated from Denison University thirty years ago today!!! Amazing. — 10 years ago
A delicious '89 for my friend on her 25th! Fragrant nose of dark cherries, licorice and floral notes. A full bodied, amazingly textured and elegant wine with impeccable concentration. Spice, burnt oak, black currant, cedar and earth. Such a fresh, vivacious 20 something. — 10 years ago
Not often I get to enjoy something like this... My mom's friend spoiled her for her birthday! — 10 years ago

Last bottle in the cellar of this vintage and almost regret opening on a burger night except, got to enjoy with a good friend. I'd give this a top ten wines I've ever had rating. Perhaps top 5. Drinking beautifully with subtle fruit and smooth silky feel. This wine was amazing...epic — 9 years ago
Brett is your friend and there's plenty more time to appreciate him.... — 9 years ago
Only (only?) had the 2002 and it was so lovely. This is the sort of wine that could make me a sweet wine drinker... Full on honey and deliciousness! My friend buys two cases of half bottles per year and after five years sells one to finance that year's two. I may start following suite.. — 9 years ago
2011- gift from a friend. Excellent structure, tannins are very mellow but alcohol is still very hot. Fruit forward, possibly oxidized fruit (port-like fruit). — 10 years ago

Nothing like a good bottle of claret after a long hike w/friend. Dont seem to think was a good vintage but w/a good maker—-drinking nicely now. Black currants, cassis, gritty tannins, acidic lift but all integrated. Decant/ pour carefully — 7 years ago
