Gold colored; amber abricot nose. Slightly oxidised, beter after 2 hours. Peaches and Tutti Frutti and almond cake. Perfect to blue cheese, mmmm — 9 years ago
Thank you to the friend who gave me this 2008 Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling Spätlese Trocken, Rheingau, Germany! We don't have too many German Rieslings in Napa. This wine bursts with golden delicious apples on the front of the palate, tropical fruits mid-palate, then finishes with blazing acidity. Or as he would say, "This Is f*cking good Riesling!" I'm pairing this with red chile chicken enchiladas. — 10 years ago

Delicious. Everything a Rheingau Riesling should be. Mineralogy, petroleum, quince, ruby grapefruit, slight wild honey. For $16, a steal! Can only imagine what it would taste like with more age.... — 8 years ago
Crisp, light, floral, peach tones. Amazing wine. Refreshing — 10 years ago
How do you say stunning in German? — 10 years ago
Fucking dope. — 10 years ago
Pretty good. Not high in acid. Thick without being sweet. — 8 years ago
Slightly disappointed with he effervesce of this wine when first opened . After 30 minutes of settling that went away and opens a nice mineral slate and stone fruit nose that was also displayed on the palate. Honey ,dates , apricot, slate and mineral dominated this bone dry and brightly acidic monster of a Riesling. — 9 years ago
Purely amazing. So focused. — 10 years ago
Enjoyable. Sweeter than I intended. But good with spicy foods. — 10 years ago
An absolutely epic wine from an epic vintage:
Creme brûlée, coffee/toffee/caramel notes, deep amber color with a green rim (always the sign of great Riesling). Concentration of layered botrytis flavors, candied citrus peel, baked apple, clove, spicy, cinnamon, tropical fruits, dates, figs...you name it this wine had it in spades...stunning complexity! Yet not in the least cloying, very clean and perfectly balanced. From very old vines and from an estate that was in its utter heyday at the time this wine was produced--MIRACULOUS!!!

Apple sauce, lychee, gooseberries, petrol, gardenias, saline, bitter almond flowers. Rounded acidity, light bodied, oily texture, long fruity-slightly bitter-floral off dry finish. Highly aromatic with mature note still in their infancy. — 8 years ago
