This one is a showstopper. Complex and big. Heavy but with grace. Some really nice cab sauv components (88%) but you definitely get the petit Verdot (12%) too. Cassis, plum, blackberry fruits lead out but with some smoked cigar and tobacco leaf that is undeniable. Graphite and menthol. Its balanced perfectly with firm tannins and large acidity. The Franciscan Napa cab is always solid at $20, but with an outstanding vintage like 2015, it really over delivers. Fruit forward but also shows some depths and complexity. Oak use is quite lavish for a wine in this price range as it spent 20 months in small French barrels with 20% new, and it shows with supple mouth feel with toffee and wood spice. But it’s not overkilled. Chewy and a bit dusty tannins. 81% Cab, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. — 8 years ago

Decanted for 90 mins and was impressed. Depth of the second half of the bottle after 24 hours was even more impressive. Big range on this. Dark rich fruits and the lead is the nose as others have said. I’ll be back (yes! I wrote that before realizing what I was writing). My first experience with a Turnbull was a success. — 8 years ago
