First of all, too young. Explosive, spicy, chocolate, lilac, cassis and definitely on the Purp side of what I enjoy. Still a balancing acidity and formidable tannins that sneak up on you like a Barolo and end up hitting you square in the face and saying "don't you dare, you smug SOB". Wonderful expression of Howell mountain fruit. The nose and palate sing of dark cherries and ripe blackberries. There is nice minerality that cuts the formidable sweet tannins and makes this approachable now. The finish goes on for a over 30 seconds and echoes the palate — 11 years ago

This wine needs time and should only improve. There is subtle complexity here with Cassius and sugar plums with hints of spices and wood. This wine has silk and balance but still formidable tannins that need to calm. Look forward to tasting a bottle in a few years — 12 years ago

The bouquet was remarkably fresh yet formidable with dark ripe cherry, raspberry, floral undergrowth, rich dark soil and mineral tones. Out of 3L. Yes we drank this too early but the wine was silky smooth and the tannins, while formidable, were sweet and approachable. Nose of ripe mountain berries with a dark chocolate covered plumb and boysenberry palate ending with those signature notes of Rutherford cocoa dust. Think bitter dark chocolate here. — 10 years ago

Sadly, this was my last bottle of the '94 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon '13th Anniversary Release'. Under Helen Turley's superlative winemaking skills these mid-nineties efforts were quite formidable. Big smoky aromas of black fruit and minerals explode from the glass. I still tasted the slowly diminishing flavors well over a minute after swallowing. Absolutely a heavenly wine! — 13 years ago
My first wine from the Galilee appellation in Israel. It’s a mountainous, stony terrain, but for all the stress I imagine vines go through in this formidable environment, Galil Mountain’s 2012 Bordeaux-style blend is stunningly pure, with almost pillowy-plush aromas of black currants, blackberries, violets, spice box and anise. Aged 16 months in French oak, the tannins are ultra-fine and evenly distributed. Elegant and nuanced on the palate, the only detractor is an ever so slightly hot finish. This a big boy no holds bard Syrah dominated blend from JS. What blows me away about this very talented young super star winemaker is he truly adapts his wine making style to the vintage. Each year is unique with its own optimized signature. This wine is a big brooding effort in which dark cherry, black plum and sweet tobacco dominate. There are cloves and cinnamon on the long drawn out finish. The tannins are formidable and this will benefit from another couple years in the bottle. Give it at least an hour in the decanter if u drink it now. This wine continues to evolve in my glass. Such a talented wine maker, I'm sorry I just discovered this producer only recently. His 2007 James berry vineyard is the only wine I have ever tasted that I consider perfection. — 12 years ago
