Really nice Barbera recommended by the wannabe sommelier but educated waiter at Lago at the Bellagio. Very tobacco/blackberry with some slate added. Had it with a bunch of different Italian small plates that went from cheese selection to truffle risotto back to short ribs and accommodated all. I liked the finish more than the opening (OK no smartass comments by my friends) and agree with the pro's on this one. — 10 years ago

What a great vintage this turning out to be...the hot, dry(er) summer brought a nice balance of sugar and acid. This was wisely Merlot heavy (60%), lending to cherry notes. However, the Merlot is sturdy alto that allows the PV and CF to harmonize their tenor cords. This was from some delightful place between Rhone and the Right Bank :) Well done and a Superb Value at 22$ — 10 years ago

I can't believe I didn't rate this or write it up at the time. A suggestion from Rory Pugh, the sommelier at the Grand Del Mar (Fairmont) in San Diego. I forget if we were at Amaya or Addison. Regardless, this was a great suggestion by Mr. Pugh and an eye-opener. Went great with our entrees, which I'm sure were meat-centric. Had it again in Boston at Craigie on Main many months later.
