Yellow plums and a range of stone fruit, especially the fragrant skins, and excellent wet stone minerals, like a very clear cool country pool in the morning. Very round mouthfeel, round acids like green grapes, gooseberry, rounded out with kiwi. It’s super green and yellow in tasting color spectrum, somewhat violet purple in a synesthesia way. A gift from a client - and a delicious one at that! Stat sheet says 15.7% alc and it sure shows, this is a BIG Alexander valley cab. Pours a dark purple with blackberry compote, vanilla extract, and dried raisin on the nose - almost port-like in essence but with an old-world smoky flair. The palate explodes with sweet black-seeded fruit, vanilla, and a touch of smoky woodsiness that rounds out the mouth. The tannic wall could age for years and probably needs more time, but I'm glad I dove in. Excellent against-the-grain Alexander valley cab. — 11 years ago

Inky purple red, lots of pigment extraction. Plum, prune, black cherry, black currant, blackberry flavors with lots of seed character and a eucalyptus finish. From a great looking bottle with high fill and perfect cork. Yellow gold and heavy weight in the glass. Bright tropical nose with notes of citrus fruit, river stone, petrol, clove and orange peel. Nice and round in the mouth but still with great acidity. Coats the taste buds. This was better in the first two hours than when compared to the last 4 hours. Tasted blind. Medium gold color. Nice weight with an enticing nose. Notes of citrus, toast, clay, river stone and pit fruit. Rich and palate staining in the mouth. Seems young. I guess 02 Leflaive Combettes. We were all surprised with the reveal as a few of us have had this bottle a dozen times or more and we didn’t guess it. A beautiful Chardonnay! Only 15 acres planted with grapes grown in Rutherford (warmer with rich ripe fruit) & Oak Knoll (cooler with fresh acidity in grapes). Pale lemon, with fresh & crisp citrus & stone fruit aromas, no malolactic ferm. Palate shows peach, apple & Asian pear flavors, with lemony & toasty notes, lively acidity & balance with touch of vanilla oak (9 months of French oak aging (25% new & 1-year old, remainder neutral oak).
