First taste of a completely new category to me. In Castelnuovo Berardenga. After dinner with Chris/Therese Joe/Kathy. Mild almost amber color. Very aromatic nose of cardamom cinnamon five spice. Riserva Poggio delle Rose Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010
Poured into a decanter about 90min before service; enjoyed over a several hour period. The 2010 “Poggio delle Rose” pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Bing cherries compote, red flowers, balsamic, oiled leather. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. This is a flashier expression of Chianti Classico Riserva by Castell’in Villa, with a modern touch. However, the sense of place is not even a question. This is Castelnuovo Berardenga through and through. Drinking well now with an extended decant and will continue to drink well through 2030, easy. — 2 years ago

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2015
Castell'in Villa's 2015 Chianti Classico is a gorgeous wine that will delight readers who enjoy the Chianti Classicos of this reference-point estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga. Crushed flowers, mint, licorice, dried herbs, cedar and tobacco give the 2015 lovely aromatic complexity. The 2015 is perhaps a bit more open than young wines tend to be here, but then again, 2015 is a warm vintage that generally yielded accessible Chianti Classicos. All that means is that the 2015 can be enjoyed with less cellaring than is the norm here. As it so often is, the Castell'in Villa Chianti Classico is a wine of real pedigree and distinction. A Benjamin Button wine. When I opened it last night, it initially was quite disappointing. Old, browning color, nose showing little fruit and mostly dried underbrush. But it began to perk up with an hour or so of air, so I saved the rest for tonight. And it’s pretty nice tonight! Strangely, the color has gotten more youthful looking. The nose shows dark macerated cherry with a significant iron note to the earthiness. A lifted menthol/ camphor thing. In the mouth, it’s got a nice freshness, and hits more like a Chianti Classico Riserva from Castelnuovo Berardenga than a typical Brunello. Dark cherry and lots of savory minerality. A little, nice bitter note in the close. Not super deep or lengthy, but a tasty wine nonetheless. Be sure to decant and give this wine lots of air. — 2 years ago

This '17 is delicious!!
It reminds me a lot of a sangiovese from Radda or Castelnuovo Berardenga or even a northern brunello. Vibrant, mineral, but supported by strong shoulders that you can't notice much at this stage. Neat and precise are the violet,tobacco and licorice.
Spices, leather and cola. The fruit is between a blood orange and a raspberry. I dare to say it recalls a Soldera's Brunello. Long, young and enjoyable from now and many years ahead. — 5 years ago
Mind though I didn't compared sangovese and pinot, but specific sangiovese from specific areas with this specific pinot. Many producers in Tuscany are known to be producing wines that resemble a Burgundy, but the play in your mouth is slightly different. Instead of fascinate you with the array of scents, smooth touch and a never ending elegant after-taste some wines IMO they deliver a juiciness when they enter and then in the mid palate they explode and spread everywhere with a long powerful after-taste. Well I reckon this T&T pinot noir had that factor that I find in many Tuscan wines, specifically in sangiovese from Radda, Castelnuovo(sometines) and Montosoli(northern area of Montalcino); other wines are like that(Kurni, Habemus...) but having ancestors from the Chianti area shifts me easily on that vision.
I don't think you need to move anything around in your cellar😄, but you got curious on what you would have done in regards🤗. Cheers mate!🙏
