Kalkofen Blaufränkisch 2012

Dieser Wein ist sowas von Mega! Blaufränkisch at it's best! Unbedingt probieren!!! — 8 years ago

Edmeades

Mendocino County Zinfandel 2013

Excellent value this entry level Edmeades Zin. Nose has tangy cherry and blackberry, pine forest underbrush, and rocky minerals. Mouthfilling and flavorsome, but with much more of a savory and minerally profile than a typical Zin. Still, the rich fruit is there. Dry, a bit of tannin present too, with good acids. Says 15% but drinks like and old pre global warming 14%er. — 8 years ago

Le Peu Morier Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2013

Something's rotten in Denmark--er, France. Seriously this smells like a past ripe papaya, rotting stone fruit, decaying flowers, potpourri. And then zing! Bone dry, almost saline on the palate, high acid, savory finish. Gimme some food with this. — 9 years ago

Big chewy 12%er. Nice autumn "pull up to the fire and brace yourself from the cold" kind of beer — 9 years ago

Il Falchetto

Ciombo Moscato d'Asti 2014

— 10 years ago

Domaine la Bohème

Violette 2014

The word "primeur" on the front label was handwritten by Bouju. It is mostly the same cuvée as the standard Violette... just a bit fresher and glouglou-er. It was specially bottled to Stephane Planche from Les Jardins de St Vincent in Arbois. — 8 years ago

Such lovely balance on a 15%-er. Mulberries and old cigar box. Between aromas and structure, dances somewhere between Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir. Really a joy to sip. — 9 years ago

A bit reductive when first opened but after an, er, aggressive decanting, opened up and showed spicy, savory fruit with a lovely ripe quality that wasn't overblown or hot on the finish. My second experience with this wine and neither bottle disappointed. — 10 years ago

Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

Let 'er breathe and glory awaits! Lush berries and licorice notes dominate a balanced, elegantly oaked wine.

Also kudos on the detailed data on the label of the what, how and where of this Red Mountain wine.

Château Clos L'Eglise

Pomerol Merlot - Cabernet Franc Blend 1999

Lovely nose, very smoky, with fur and old leather, sappy red cherry, plum and cigar, irony and sanguine, with a touch of dried ground. Palate is lithe and fresh, very smoky with plenty of earth and leather, irony, medium concentration and length. Nose is much stronger than palate, lovely aged drop but not a blockbuster nor worth holding further. Drink er' up! 1999 vintage. — 10 years ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

High Mountain Vines Mendoza Malbec 2014

I received a selection of Catena wines following an interview with Dr. Laura Catena (to her credit, she's an amazing person and a part time ER doc). Her 2014 High Mountain Vines Cabernet displays glorious aromas of black currant, anise, mocha, exotic spice, and cedar. Medium weight, elevation has endowed this Argentine Cab with elegance and silkiness stitched against a backdrop of fine tannins and high acidity. It’s fresh and intense with a finish that flirts with saline-tipped minerality. — 8 years ago

Flying Fox

Trio Merlot Blend 2013

What a great vintage this turning out to be...the hot, dry(er) summer brought a nice balance of sugar and acid. This was wisely Merlot heavy (60%), lending to cherry notes. However, the Merlot is sturdy alto that allows the PV and CF to harmonize their tenor cords. This was from some delightful place between Rhone and the Right Bank :) Well done and a Superb Value at 22$ — 9 years ago

Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno

Ravera Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

— 12 years ago
