Unexpected and delightful - Pinot Noir from Southwest Virginia! From vineyards planted at 1800 feet (big diurnal range and early harvest), this silky wine sang with notes of loam and damp earth, maitake mushroom, cranberry, red cherry, raspberry compote, boysenberry, violet, lavender, black pepper, toast and wood smoke, with bracing acid and medium-plus tannins on a medium frame. A long, satisfying, and juicy finish. One to seek out that proves how careful site selection and winemaking skill can produce superb results from innovative grape/region combinations! — 6 years ago
Color of shades of purple, inky in the center and lighter at the rim. Nose of nice sugarplum, sweet oak, tobacco leaves, spice, and nice residual sweetness. Taste of similar notes with addition of berry and zesty note, also peppery, while sweetness lingers all the time. Aftertaste is medium, low tannins, and some more medicinal note. Overall she is a fully loaded beauty. Smooth but just a bit too sweet for me. My rating does reflect my slow fat reservation about sweetness. Crowds will generally be pleased. — 7 years ago

Poses a spicy nose with a wild feeling of prunes and red table grapes. Palate is black currant, red plum, coffee. You can tell that there is a long going on here, plus a medium long finish. Pure with berry fruit. Young. I expect complexity to come with age as is typical with Geyserville. $38 at winery. — 10 years ago

On the nose, delicate raspberries and a hint of caramel. Wood is invisible.
On the palette, the wine does not have the typical Zin signature at all. It's very restrained with hints of raspberries and kirsch. Tannins are completely integrated. So happy that I was not overwhelmed with jam and fruit. — 9 years ago

2007 Marcassin Blue-Slide Ridge Pinot. Drank as the second red wine at the David Gray concert. Worked out well bc the Brunello was much more suited as a food wine and this wine was perfect to drink without food, after dinner and during the actual concert.
