Les Chalasses Vieilles Vignes Côtes du Jura Chardonnay

My husband and I first tried this winemaker at Caves Madeleine, our favorite restaurant in Burgundy. I believe it was also this first time I had heard about Jura. We’ve since fallen in love with these wines and Jean Francois Ganevat in particular. This excellent old vine Chardonnay has notes of melon rind, honey and citrus and good minerality as well as a mouth coating richness. — 6 years ago

Les Dentelles Syrah Grenache 2017

Quite intriguing, not a style of winemaking I reach for often, but an example of it done well. Minimal extraction and no SO2 with the allure and charm this has can be quite difficult. It’s a little skanky upon first opening, but after a night in the bottle it cleaned up considerably, the brett and VA melted into the wine a little more and its muddled melange of red fruit and earth became apparent. Crushed rainer cherry, decaying strawberries, rhubarb compote, white pepper, sweaty brett. I like blurring the lines between light red and rosé, and the wine worked well with roast chicken w/ spices and poblano mashers night one and fared well with tomato/avocado salad and grilled sardines the next night. That versatility at the table was impressive. — 4 years ago

les pins Crozes Hermitage Syrah 2017

Sandy, decomposed granite soils. Richly textured with a firm, tannic backbone support its dense fruit. Ripe, pushing soaked, black fruit, roasted meat, garrigue, talcum, menthol, violet, leather, and loads of pepper. There’s a firm thread of granite and sanguine throughout. This is wound up, I love the texture though, grainy and raw. It needs some time to harmonize its finish. Baby Hermitage! — 4 years ago

Vin de Paille Côtes du Jura 2010

Phenomenal, rich and viscous but balanced with nice acidity and alcohol feels subtle (14%). Aromas of dried spicy apricot and roasted pear. Made of primarily Poulsard as Jean-Francois describes this grape as lending the best flavor. — 10 years ago

Plan de Dieu par Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2012

One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.

Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!

So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable?
