Incredible with pork belly & apples! — 4 years ago
Eucalyptus bomb. Like Heitz Martha’s Vineyard, early Turnbull wines were known for the character imparted by neighboring eucalyptus groves. I’ve never come across a wine where it was as apparent as with this one. Perhaps with age the eucalyptus sticks around as the fruit fades. Enjoyable experience all the same. — 5 years ago
Ruby red with pink hue. Fresh muddled strawberry and raspberry with stem attached to it. Hint of bubble gum, mint and tarragon on the nose. Med plus to high acidity, mineral, dry with med to med plus tannin. A food rose to enjoy with Mexican food such as chicken and beef tacos. — 6 years ago
Took about 30 mins to open up, but this is one that's ready to go. Good luck of oak, chunky fruit. Great value! — 8 years ago
Magnum 1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Drank at Archetype lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Second of the red lineup, following a magnum of 1975 Heitz. Much bigger and its youth showed. Lovely wine that we all really enjoyed. — 8 years ago
Surprisingly great. And from a legendary vintage of Heitz. — 8 years ago
This is a 2005 from Brewer-Clifton, and is drinking beautifully. Fruit sourced from Melville (where Greg Brewer is the winemaker), this wine has a very distinctive spice on the nose that I always associate with Melville wines. Don't know if it's coming from the soil or the barrels used for ageing, but it's as recognizable as the menthol/eucalyptus oil that you pick up on a Heitz Martha's Vineyard cab. Beautiful balance, with a relatively high alcohol that is totally concealed by the fruit (and at 10 years old, that's saying something!). For anyone who thinks you can't make a great pinot with >14% alcohol, please try this wine! — 9 years ago
Yum. 2013 amazing — 4 years ago
Reductive at first with some smoke. Not unlike PYCM. Reduction blows away rather quickly and reveals clean citrus fruit. Some salinity on the palate. Guesses were PM, SA, M. Relatively short finish indicated village level. Overall decent. — 6 years ago

Enjoyed this beauty with baked salmon. — 8 years ago
Delicious, still youthful but nutty, and lovely honeyed notes — 9 years ago
Slightly muted nose at first but with some dark fruit and violets. But what a gorgeous palate, from mid to strong bodied, a nice tension, fairly powerful but silky coated tannins, just enough, nothing rustic here, a nice balance to this delicious wine and even better when drank on day two. 91-92

— 8 years ago
No vintage Heitz dessert wine. Matthew treated us to this special surprise at Augustine. Had no idea this ever even existed. Such a treat! — 9 years ago
Another stunner from 1997. — 10 years ago
