Escapade 2014 - France Gonzalvez

Unusual for an Aussie Shiraz with a relatively low alcohol content at 13%, lending it a medium-bodied but elegant feel. I must admit to being perplexed by the wine. I was expecting a much more powerful style, but to me this is a quite delicate wine, albeit with great finesse and length.
The wine has a very striking floral perfume, with plumb and red berry fruits set against a subtle but multi-layered background of spice, violets and aniseed. A very well structured wine, with finely integrated tannins, the oak barely noticeable except for a slight vanillin flavour on the back palate.
A lovely Yarra Valley shiraz, but I can’t help but think I’ve caught it mid-journey. I almost feel embarrassed to have interrupted its journey. I’ll check in on it again in a few years time to see if its nearer its destination. — 9 years ago
Served as our house wine...rich, smooth and delightful. The winery is a favorite cycling destination! — 10 years ago
Button down the hatches folks, we're going for a ride - destination Montilla-hey-o! Distilled peanuts, racy pineapple pith, pear and pencil shavings. The acidity cuts through, well, everything, sashaying forth with pronouncements long on macadamia and happiness. Also: Salt lick that you like. Marcona almonds. Caselvetrano olives. Respect. — 10 years ago
Nice floral nose, great mineral qualities, bright with a good acid backbone. Perfect for summer! — 10 years ago

Great paired with Thanksgiving flavors. Crisp and light, but not too sweet. — 11 years ago
Carmel Valley (Central Coast) has been a favorite destination for my wine adventures. Joullian has been a staple there for 25 years--winemaker Ridge Watson included. Their 2007 (silver at the SF wine comp) lacked that cab kick. — 12 years ago
What a surprise - this really takes its time opening up - but the destination is well worth the wait - too bad I only have a single bottle I picked up on a whim!! — 9 years ago
Always delicious. Alexander valley becoming my go to destination for can't miss Cab. — 9 years ago
Spain; my go to destination for Grenache. Needs another year or two, still a bit aggressive. — 10 years ago
Open wine bottle, garden full of fountains, peace is the journey and the destination. — 10 years ago
