Here is a grand daddy Bordeaux, both in size and stature that just never fails to disappoint. Black currant, dark fruits, tobacco, vanilla, all rolled seamlessly with the classic minerality of this famous terroir. More impressive than expected for a 2006, age has treated this wine well as the nose was opulent and delicious and tannins well integrated and smooth. Sadly, this double magnum was simply not sufficient to satisfy our thirst... — 10 years ago
Wow. Blew me away. Ripe dark Jammy currant tobacco but really soft tannins. I actually picked up this bottle after someone left in the back of a cab. Win win. Let it decant for at least an hour. Totally different flavor profile — 11 years ago
Of the 2 Bordeaux drinking the best tonight, but long term the Brane-Cantenac 2005 will outlive this wine by 10 years easy. While very complex, a fine touch a green is traceable.
A classic currant and forest floor nose, fall leaves abound with a spike of spice and a barely there green that while subtle is apparent.
The pleasure here is higher for its more mature tasted and feel, while the brawny 2005 is a better wine it was not as enjoyable to me and feel it will be another notch enter in 3 years, and likely 2 notches better in 5.
The elegance and feel on this wine is ready to go and will easily go another 5+ years. — 9 years ago
Older than me and gorgeous. Dried red cherry, plum, currant, cedar, acid and tannin to match — 11 years ago
Clear deep purple colour with watery rim. Clean medium intensity aroma with minty black cherry and black currant with hint of oak smokiness and vanilla. Dry on the palate full bodied medium alcohol with medium acidity and high but smooth velvety tannin. Flavours of earthy black currant, black cherry, and vanilla. Flavours last through into its long pleasant finish. Very good quality, drink now but can age for another 3 to 5 years for a even more balanced complexity. — 11 years ago
Australia makes a specialty of blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz and one of the better examples is Penfolds Bin 389. This is an excellent mature wine, doing it easily at 15 years of age, and will go on. Notes of black currant and mint but at this age all the descriptors just melding into "damn good claret". Perfect with roast lamb. 60% Cab Sauv, 40% Shiraz. 2001 vintage. — 10 years ago
Really nice. Red currant, spicy, herbaceous and some oak. — 10 years ago
Nose was ripe dark fruit, currant, spices, smoked oak or cedar. Velvet texture with nice dark fruit, licorice, pepper and smoke. Well rounded tannin at the end. Long finish. — 11 years ago

Perfectly aged in large format bottle. Tannins have held up over time but don't overwhelm. Aromas: dried roses, burnt blackberry. Flavors: currant, dried cranberry, juniper. Beautiful wine. Once in a lifetime opportunity to taste it! — 9 years ago
