Lots of sun drenched orchard fruit on the nose, confirmed on the palate. Ripe pear and apple, some baking spices but not overpowering. Medium plus finish. I think the balance of the fruit and acidity is off; 14.1 percent abv; if it was 13-13.5 with a slightly less ripe fruit profile and more acid it would be better. — 8 months ago

Star bright straw gold. Abundant funky nose of burning citrus and funghi. Medium palate is much cleaner than the nose yielding toasted lemon, white guava, and white pepper with a bit of birch on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Medium finish. A fine example of California Fumé style SB. Okay as a sipper, but built for a meal. Swordfish and scallops come racing to mind, but any white fleshed fish or shellfish should pair wonderfully. Or just upscale your fried chicken. It’s good for that, too. Drink now through 2024. — 4 years ago

This wine has it all... has converted me to having faith in the potential of American Pinots. Nose is strong violets with undifferentiated fruit. 2023 vintage. PNP. Complicated stuff and not for the uninitiated. Needed at least two hours open/an hour in a decanter. Light body with dirt, earth, shrooms, orange peel so not exactly plushy. Would love to catch this in a half-decade. Pricing was under $25 USD a bottle resto cost on three cases but too far to the right to appeal to the masses or thereabouts even when it "comes around." 01.21.25. — 5 months ago

The Eyrie Vineyards, Pinot Gris, from the Dundee Hills of Oregon. Vintage 2017. ABV 12.5%.

Bright citrus and tart melon and cantaloupe notes with some salinity and wet stone influences. Very refreshing and youthful.

Easy to pair with food, we have paired it with roasted bok choy, aubergine, and brown jasmine rice. It goes nicely and doesn’t compete with the tamari and sesame flavors. — 4 years ago
