A new favorite. — 8 years ago
This comes from the personal label of vineyard manager Josh Clark and his wife Heather. Winemaker is Thomas Rivers Brown.
This is Samuel L. Jackson cast as Henry David Thoreau. A richly polished voice, with an attitude and a cadence that would even make gibberish entertaining. Beyond the ostensible hedonism, though, there's a substance that is layered, nuanced, and contemplative. But the former can certainly make it hard to focus on the latter.
Opens with some obvious, but not overpowering, malo butteriness which sets up perfectly for the blueberry pimp coat that takes center stage, surrounded by pencil shavings, crème de cassis, licorice, baked fig, and cigar box.

Dark fruit rhubarb and chalky finish on the nose. Black fruit and tar with mellow tannins. Leaves a spicy coat in your mouth. Wonderful wine. — 9 years ago
Morgante makes some of my favorite Nero d''Avola. It's just their thing. Rich and bold, abundant tannins and ripe fruit, leather and earthy hints. Barely out of the distinction badge. — 9 years ago
This had been opened for 8 hours. Layer upon layer of intense dark fruit and milk chocolate coat the palate and they don't wanna leave. — 10 years ago
Thank you Mr Krueger! — 10 years ago
Smokey meat aromas and faint menthol on the nose. Generous flavors of black cherry, white pepper, and cedar coat the palate. Nice tannic backbone helps out with a lengthy finish. — 11 years ago
Beautiful dark crimson red, slightly cloudy. Awesome nose of very good intensity, and a beautiful array of fruity and exotic aromas. Shoe polish and cherry cola primary aromas. Secondary scents of manure dark chocolate or cocoa. Very good presence upon entrance in the palate, with tanginess in the tip of the tongue that evolves marvelously, showing great grip, very pleasant acidity, good balance, great length, and complexity to fill it up, and coat you palate, leaving you with a very long finish, and sensations of chocolate covered cherries, and then cocoa beans and expresso flavors at the end. This is not an entry-level wine by any means. It is complex, intriging, very food worthy, and beautiful. Well made, well designed wine, with good harmony, great grip, and long, sweet tannins. 92+ pts. — 12 years ago
On this Easter night we have opened the 2009 Philip Togni Tanbark Hill Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon which has gone over very well.
The nose is very expressive with rich luscious aromas of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, black pepper, licorice, pimento, mint and earth.
At first sip on the palate brings rich dark fruit of black cherry, blackberry, black currant then the green bell pepper comes through with black pepper, licorice and rich earth.
This is a full bodied wine with medium + acidity and medium + gripping tannins that coat the tongue which leads to a long beautiful finish. A well blended wine that is very pleasing and has many years ahead of it. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. The new week is ahead so please be safe and make it an eventful one. Delivered on Friday. Gone by Sunday. Next great thing from Kris and Bruno. — 8 years ago
Strikingly youthful. Deep garnet almost all the way to the rim. Complex aromatics of ripe berries, baking spices and licorice, lead, cedar and forest floor. Ample acidity brightens the palate, and regal, nearly-resolved tannins coat the mouth. Finely integrated and harmonious, this has plenty of life in it, but no reason to hold any longer. — 8 years ago
Has the roundness & oxidative qualities of the Tondonia Blanco, but is more generous & approachable in youth. Hazelnut & lemon notes coat the palate. Aromatics aren't as forward, but still show some pretty florals & lemony notes. Always a treat to drink this producer's wines. — 8 years ago
This brawny Rutherford SB is much like that kid that joined the marines just for fun. Bronzed pear color. Fat legs coat the glass upon initial swirl. Robust, rich and perhaps almost pine-tinged flavors of lime and kiwi. Bold, with a nice, weighty mouthfeel. Has body and bite. Was very lucky to find this wine indeed. Yellow flowers and a slight honeyed essence from the Semillion with a present minerality. I think zesty is a great adjective for this Rutherford SB — 9 years ago
Sweet black cherry liqueur on the first glass (after one, the liqueur effect begins to fade), ripe cranberry, raspberry, cooked rhubarb, black & red licorice together, dry cranberry, tar, black earth, minerals and smoked meats. Baking spices; cinnamon, vanilla. Sticky resolved tannins that coat your mid plate. Woody with tobacco leaf. Enjoy with a steak or good meat sauce with or without truffles. Drink now and for at least another 10-15 years. Perhaps, even beyond. Think the score could inch up to a 9.6 with some additional aging. — 10 years ago
Love this wine! Great aromatic characteristics, big body, sweet tannins that coat your entire mouth on the finish! Giampaolo Tabarrini is an amazing winemaker. — 11 years ago
SO DELICIOUS. — 11 years ago
Sage, nutmeg, allspice, black currant, smoked blackberry and blackened plum with shimmering basalt, cedar and vintage tobacco. Medium mouthfeel with refined tannins, a blood-like iron taste, rich, black cherry and dried cranberry with a gritty, earthen coat. A sprinkle of graphite and nettle in a cedar box. #poderesapaio #bolgheri #italianredwine #rosso #thanksgivingwine #thanksgivingindulgence #thanksgiving — 7 years ago
Light Sumatra coffee notes, with dark cocoa nib and baked red plum with a borderline persimmon coat on. A drop of night blooming jasmine surfacing briefly and African violet, and a fat lily thickness. There are baked cherries and a smoky paprika, too. Black cherry, that coils dustily into a toasty oak and resin dappled raspberry and roobios bitterness and fine grained tannins. #brunello #poggiocastellare #PianBossolino #italianwines #montalchino #Tuscany #riserva #wineallyouwant — 8 years ago
How else to warm up for a trade tasting of invigorating Champagne this afternoon? Penetrating Sercial Madeira from the year that brought us the Boy Scouts of America. If wine were merit badges perhaps I'd nearly be an Eagle by now... After this evening's tasting I'll have quite a heavy merit badge sash for Champagne -an obsession that can reach no surfeit -it becomes more fascinating and evermore nuanced. For the moment however I'm awash in crushed kumquats in honey, marmalade, hazelnuts and roast peanuts -all layered among so much more in one of the richest Sercial Madeiras I've tried to date. — 9 years ago
This Chardonnay is perfection. Nose of honey and stone fruit. The same flavor notes coat the entire mouth and finishes oh so smoothly. Paired fabulously with my Bedford Cheese Shop selections: Nababbo Taleggio, Prosciutto di Parma and Molinari Sopressata accompanied by a perfectly ripe plum. — 9 years ago
What an amazjng texture. Rhone throughout, wish there was more of this. — 10 years ago
Stewed blue fruit and spice. Mouth filling without the coat. — 10 years ago
The bright ruby '08 Antica Terra Pinot Noir Willamette Valley is firing on all cylinders. A vibrant nose of cinnamon, red cherries and berries, violets and forest floor. Complex and concentrated cherry cola, red plum and brown spice flavors coat the mouth. Impressive energy and balance lead to a lingering and spicy finish. — 11 years ago
