Another Hunter Valley beauty. Love the wines from Lake's Folly, especially when they have as much mineral driven tension as this one. Not at all a fat-n-flabby but a well built, chic Chardy of impeccable structure and finesse. — 13 years ago
I was excited to dine at the (relatively) new Union Square Cafe. The previous venue closed some time ago and caused a bit of a ripple throughout the New York restaurant scene: Rising rents wreck regarded restaurant. I prefer the look of the new venue. High ceilings, homely yet chic furnishings, beautiful lighting and a cool mezzanine level. It looks the part. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. And the food is every bit as good (and goodness me so filling) as it has always been.
The wine list is terrific. There are a pages of legendary wines but plenty of values to be found and the markup is very reasonable, particularly considering that tips are included.
Take the 2014 Produttori del Barbaresco. It is just superb. Classic Nebbiolo through and through. Midweight but with grip, more powerful than the translucent coloring would imply. Delicious now but would last.
It was $90 on the list. Take off the typical 20% tip and you have $72 on any other list. I saw this in a store the other day for $40, so that's a less than 2x retail markup. Not bad and very fair.
I'm looking forward to my next visit to USC. — 8 years ago

Kate Moss... Boho-chic... Pale, lean, and sexy, with flowers in its hair. Decidedly not a juicy rose, so I can see why there are so many haters. I think the wine likes it that way... — 10 years ago
Not your ordinary Spanish garnacha! This chic treat is more like a high end chateauneuf du pape. This wine screams high quality from the stunning refined clarity to the espresso and oak aromatics. The full bodied flavors, dark berry, earth, espresso and hint minerality were equally complex on the palate. Good acidity, with firm but refined tannin. Stylish, rugged, refined, you have the sense this wine can do anything, be everything at once. Perfect for any dish and all special occasions, wonderful from start to finish. — 10 years ago
One of the "cleanest" and smoothest Chardonnays I've ever tasted. Only 12$ at BevMo. Noticed it initially bec of the chic packaging. Glad to say it delivered also in taste. Best with light pasta dishes or even cheesecake. — 11 years ago

Rioja has never been my favorite spanish region. Ribera del Duero's, and Toro's finely crafted wines have always casted a shadow on their riojan counterparts.
But Rioja has payed attention, and is picking up the pace. This wine is beautiful. Rustic chic beautiful. Not Elizabeth Taylor's kind of beauty, but surely, Sophia Loren's. — 10 years ago
Perhaps the best Nebbiolo on the planet, for 25 bucks. Right up there with some of my favorite wines from more chic appellations. This is roses and dried beef. This is lusty, tannic, and brilliant. — 11 years ago

I've had a few wonderful meals at Leuca in Williamsburg recently because the in-laws spent a few weeks staying at the (very chic) hotel that houses the restaurant.
We had intended to go to a nearby French restaurant but our reservation was messed up so we retreated to reliable Leuca. I brought along this Pommard (thinking about the anticipated cuisine) and it was delicious. Bright cherries underpinned by an earthiness and a lavender lift. It has considerable depth and at eight years old is drinking beautifully right now. — 8 years ago
