A classic. 100% Viura from the Zaconia vineyard, located right outside López de Heredia’s winery in Haro. Fermented in ancient oak vats with indigenous yeasts and aged in used barrels for four years, followed by another 6 years in bottle. Complex nose with oxidative notes. Chamomile, flowers, beeswax, lemon curd. Austere on the mouth, with great acidity and freshness. Long, subtly salty finish. Amazing — 4 years ago
Visiting again this splendid Paulliac from the 2011 vintage. 2011 vintage was labeled as mediocre in Bordeaux and this lovely wine showed that it is actually a classic vintage with some great wines, so trust the chateau not only the vintage. The nose is tempting with notes if coffee, earth, oak, cassis, black fruits and hints of chocolate, the body is full with round tannins, acidity is splendid and finish is long. My score 92, drink to 2026, perhaps longer — 6 years ago
Bright, clear ruby with a great nose of cassis, blackberry, violet and mint.
Beautiful length and finesse. Great impression of crushed fruit with hints of forest floor and cedar. The finish leaves a lasting impression of sweet red fruit and supported by a soft blanket of tannins. This is the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove - just lovely — 7 years ago
Tasted at Chateau.
2/3 CS, 1/3 M
Deep and dark garnet, opaque, compact and youthful rim.
Rather restrained nose, much less expressive even as compared with its little sibling. Classic bouquet of cassis, graphite, minerals, and boysenberry.
Structured and definitely a very serious wine that needs time. Leafy cassis, herbal notes, pine cone, minerals.
Didn't want to come out of its shell today but potentials are evident. 10 years worth of patience minimum required for this mere "second wine". 90+ — 8 years ago
Went great with food, tannic by itself. — 9 years ago
Given for our 2015 birthdays from Sabine and Maarten with the 2005. Opened 1/2/2016 at kalaloch -did quasi vertical tasting. Nose: berry, smoke, nut, strawberry-rhubarb pie, vanilla. Taste: SPICY, dark cherry, wood smoke, pine. Very full but not a heavy finish. May be the smokey-est wine we have ever tasted. (Would be excellent with steak!) — 9 years ago
Fruity, nice and dry. — 10 years ago
Given to me by old friend Marvin Stauffer. This Chateau was his favorite. Rest in Peace Marv! — 11 years ago
Some nice oxidative appley aromas. Palate is deep and hits the right notes. Well made, if not much verve.
After being spoiled by great grower champagne all through quarantine, it’s actually surprising to try a bottle of big house bubbles I used to love and find it enjoyable but kinda boring. — 5 years ago
Wonderfully refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. — 7 years ago
So much salinity and complexity on the nose. Super mineral with a little texture on the palate. Really really pretty wine especially for the cost! — 8 years ago

I bought this a Costco because I don’t think I had ever see a Margaux for $20(!). I was not disappointed. I generally love Margaux, though I find that they can sometimes be finicky, requiring decanting and lots of breathing before they fully reveal themselves. Not so this. It’s easy to drink on your terms, not the wine’s, and, in this way, it is faintly redolent of the New World, but I don’t mean that as a pejorative. Just pop it open and go. Very easy. Uncomplicated The wine itself is delicious. The texture seems slightly thicker to me, and this may be due, in part, to the higher alcohol content of this wine (14.5%) when compared to what I normally associate with Bordeaux. Overall, it has a nice balance of stone fruits and tannins, and, even if somewhat thicker and, perhaps, less distinguished than other wines from Margaux, it’s an enjoyable bargain. Highly recommend! — 4 years ago

Delicious. Balanced fruit with earthy flavors in the back. Great Languedoc red! — 7 years ago
This was dynamite for the price. Needed some time to open up but after about 2 hours in a decanter, it sang. Rich texture reminiscent of some of Von Niepperg's higher end estates. What I loved most was the absolute seamless and perfect integration of oak on this bottle. Rarely have I been as pleased with the oaking regiment of a wine as I was with this wine. Perfectly sweet oak and vanilla coming through without being too prevalent. A beauty of a bottle for $25. — 8 years ago
May 10, 2016. Lunch wine, day 2 l'Ecole du Vin. 70% merlot, 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, & Petit Verdot. Well balanced lovely — 9 years ago
Beaucastel is by far my favorite chateauneuf, killed this one a little young but was still a very rich and bold but nicely balanced Bordeaux. Dark cherry and dark chocolatey notes. — 9 years ago
