Tasted blind. Reddish tawny color. Edges suggest its old. Notes of strawberry, raspberry, iron, roses. Some zing and power in the nose. Slaps your face when tasted. Sappy. Powerful impact. Long finish. Other guesses were in Burgundy land eg Griotte but I went with 90 Rayas. Bingo. — 6 years ago
Lush and fruity. — 8 years ago
Dried cherries and roses, hazelnuts, and tobacco. Slightly austere on the palate with sharp acidity and dry tannin. Acid is dominate. Better with food - paired with coffee cherry rubbed beef tenderloin. 13.5% ABV is noticeable as this is on the lighter, more elegant side, no heat. This effort improved with a little air may need a little more time to come together. — 8 years ago
Vanilla, brown sugar, lemon curd, a little simple, more heat on the finish than I would like. — 9 years ago
Nose of roses and truffles evolves to dried herbs and balsamic notes. Wonderfully complex in the mouth, with integrated tannins and a long fruit finish. Although this opened up nicely with decanting, it has plenty of years left to evolve. Savor now through 2025. — 11 years ago

One of the smoothest, most flavorful whiskies I have tried. — 5 years ago
Had the 2009 vintage in July 2019 in Kairon with family for birthday celebration. Excellent. — 6 years ago
Gorgeous nose. Chestnut, tar, leather, roses, old books, classic Nebbiolo. Palate has sweet sweet cherry fruit and nice density with terrific high acid and structure. Needs an hour to get going. Really intense 2010 structure but thrilling fruit. — 7 years ago

The first magnum was corked! But the second is a piece of work! Great balance showing classic tar and roses, with elegance.

2001 vintage. Medium garnet. Quite fresh fruit forward raspberry and red plums. Roses and heavy oil fumes. Touches of smoke and woody notes. On the palate, very smooth, silky. Medium bodied. Medium plus acidity, high tannins - very integrated and mouth puckering. Finish is edging to long - fruit forward and cherry liqueur notes. Very decent and drinking well. Would personally keep for another 5+ years before opening as this is still evolving nicely. Still lacks soul - a little too manufactured for my palate. — 10 years ago

This bottle was the fourth and final bottle part of our Barolo ensemble, generously shared and curated by our friend Tim.
Served blind, like the others, after a lengthy slow-ox. We were all aware that we were drinking Barolo but all other details were hidden from us. This bottle showed no visual signs of age. It was actually quite gorgeous to behold with a deep ruby core and bright disk. The bouquet was powerful; the most powerful of the four we experienced on this night. Cherries, strawberries, raspberries, exotic spices, tar, roses, dried herbs...even a bit of an umami thing was happening...everything was on full display! The finish was long and savory. Almost gave me the feeling of a buzz button which, I have only encountered once before in wine.
Of the four Barolos, on this night and to my palate, this exhibited the most sizzle. I was well and truly smitten. When this was revealed to be the 2012 Cappellano “Pie Rupestris”, it became an Archimedes moment for me...short of running through the town naked. Until now, I had only tried Cappellano’s Barbera d’Alba and Chinato; both extraordinary wines. This fits squarely into my wheelhouse and has become a new benchmark for me; recalling a similar experience to my first Lignier “Clos de la Roche”. A monumental wine that is already drinking so well but has everything necessary to age with grace for decades to come. Scary thing? There remains upside, I’m sure of it. — 5 years ago
Minerals initially segueing into light fruit. Fun. — 7 years ago

Drink with your kickass girlfriends wine. Valtellina Nebbiolo is that beautiful combo of hard and soft. Roses and dirty dirty dirt. The best lady of a wine. I’d marry it. This wine would make me eggs and slap me when I said something wrong minded. It might spoon me too if I’m lucky — 8 years ago
Bottle variance! Last one was bit maderized but this one was showing much better. Soft mature ripe fruit of peaches, compote and bread yeast toast. Enjoyed it. — 8 years ago
Out of the gate it was quite rough and undefined, but within 30 minutes opened to a sweet nose of orange, roses, sweet red cherries and strawberries. With flashes of something sweet and green like fried sage. On the palate the tannins are approachable and the acid is searing but integrated. The flavor is more subtle than the aromas and it develops in the glass quite quickly. Moderate finish. But what's there while it's there is quite amazing! Went great with and was improved by a simple dinner of skin-on chicken breast and tomato-sautéed broccoli. — 9 years ago
