Smells tight right out of the bottle through an aerator (as you’d expect). Tastes very good! But, anonymous. It tastes like very good high quality wine. — 3 years ago
Lots of menthol and pencil lead. Firm texture, low tannins. — 5 years ago

Superb wine, a little young, strong tannins, rich body, deep red, strong currant, berry and soil flavors — 7 years ago
This is showing very impressively, all the more so considering the very unimpressive 2001 I had recently after loving both vintages on release. It is in the heavyweight class no doubt and has only budged a little bit since release, with the structure more assertive and some of the baby fat gone and showing its bones. Visually it still has the deep, dark inky color of a wine barely past release so I was actually surprised not to find it more obviously fruit-gobbed on the palate. It's a packed and stacked wine to be sure, but the stuffing isn't about fruit so much as tarry Graves asphalt and gravel. The fruit it does show is red-complexioned, which is surprising since these are all blueberry and blackberry on release. Time in the decanter fills in a lot of the empty spaces and makes it positively voluptuous - still with a thick coat of tannin but soft and refined in texture. Not quite cashmere but not rough either. This is vastly richer, denser, and fresher than the 2001 was. It is at a point where it's probably fair to put to rest any doubts about ageability - it's stuffed but in proportion and fresh without being primary. But this and the 2001 were also the last SHLs I enjoyed on release - by 2005 the style seemed to have gone over the top. If the 2005 tastes like this in 5 years I'll have to eat some crow. That said, there's no doubt this is sort of a slutty style of Graves, not a wine for those looking for elegance or subtlety, although if it can keep developing at this rate the old "tour de force" cliche may actually fit just fine. — 8 years ago

K&L notes as follows, Grand Pontet is an interesting property, positioned in the neighborhood of other stars of the appellation such as Châteaux Canon, Beau-Séjour-Bécot and Clos Fourtet. It is, however, a small estate, a mere 14 hectares, and its prices are much better than some of its more prestigious neighbors. In 1980 it was purchased by Gerard and Dominique Bécot, owners of the neighboring Beau-Séjour-Bécot. They have applied the same high standards to both Châteaux in their possession, and their winemaking team crafts Grand Pontet alongside the Beau-Séjour-Bécot wines. Recently purchased in 2021 by Domaines Clarence Dillon (Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, et al.), the property was combined with and incorporated into Château Quintus. Full-bodied and luscious, this Grand Pontet is laden with ripe blackberry fruits, savory tobacco, licorice notes, and ripe, softened tannins. It’s seamless and bold, not shy. It’s going to require something decadent to pair with, such as filet mignon or some other black-tie dish with plenty of flavor and rich umami presence. — 2 years ago

Did not know what to expect but trying to drink my cellar down and have to open this old stuff. Opened, decanted and but back in the bottle about 4 hours before dinner. Tasted when first opened and it seemed very light and not much there. When we poured it for dinner it had opened, very integrated, had a lot going on without that old wine funk. Very enjoyable but did seem to lose some fruit a couple of hours later. RP rated this wine a 98+ and considered it along with Haut Brion as the wines of the vintage. Paid $22.95 back in the day. — 5 years ago
Pretty nose of white flower, peach, lemon peel, star fruit, and petrol, with faint aroma of almond and honey. Palate is quite round and textured for a predominately Sauvignon Blanc (95% with the rest Semillon) blend that saw 11 months in barrel partially. Chrysanthemum tea like bitter sweet on the taste with a bit of saltiness. Clean but short finish. — 7 years ago
This might be the best QPR wine out there (I think I paid 20bucks) drinks like 10x that and then some. White pepper, slate and grapefruit. Chewy structure. Just awesome wine. Story is this is either the press wine or the after picks from a 1st growth BDX. Somebody told me Haut Brion. I can see that. Wish I had a lot more. — 8 years ago

Clearly aged, but still had some fruit and exotic notes of a wonderful wine — 7 years ago
While this vintage has lost some fruit it was a real treat to taste this back to back with Haut-Brion & w/ Mayacamas & StagsLeapWineCellars S.L.V. albeit more recent vintages for the #California wines. #JOP recreation. I'm not complaining! — 8 years ago
Not sure if it's just in a dumb phase or didn't want to come out and play. Not very inspiring, last bottle was better. Out of OWC — 9 years ago
1992. Drank after haut brion and petrus 82 so no accurate comment here. Nose is typical pomerol, but the coating effect remains long n silky. Drink. — 10 years ago

An oldie but a goodie, great claret color, garnet with a touch of purple, a faint brick on the rim. The nose is haunting, with leather and old library page aromas, dried sweet tobacco, smoke, and roasted coffee beans. The palate is silky, expansive, with savory notes and lush and full textures. A long, elegant and broad finish. — 11 years ago
