A new wine for me from an ancient and dying region in Portugal. In favor of beach homes and development, the old timers that tended the vines in this region are selling their property as its pretty hard to market and sell these wines. After years trying to taste it in a proper manner, I finally found the opportunity over a decent red pepper steak with red grape sauce. I was surprised not to see Alicante Bouschet into this baco original from the heights of the Serra de Sao Mamede in Portalegra, but the truth is that the typical granite soils from the region are powering this Touriga Nacional to its best!! Friends brought this over the other night. We paired it with pizza and it was great. Definitely let it breathe for a bit before serving. Lots of deep berry flavors, leaning heavily toward blackberry. Definitely would be great with red sauce pasta dishes. — 11 years ago

A deliciously dry tinto, enjoyed in Praça do Comércio on the port side of Lisbon. This tinto had a smooth taste that faded into a sharp bite that would eventually leave a lingering bitter fruit taste on the back of your tongue. — 13 years ago

The longer you hold this wine in cellar the better it gets!! Mint aromas and flavors lead to an intense wine that is powered at this young stage by firm, serious tannins. It has great richness from the black plum fruits, and a spicy, herbal character that adds complexity. — 12 years ago
