Tasted blind. Deep dark and opaque. Red center with amber rims. Looks young. Very rich and luscious in the mouth. Black cherry, forest floor, tobacco leaf and a hint of old wood. Amazing impact out of the gate, but this declined in what it gave as the night went on whereas the 53 Lafite got better. — 7 years ago
Second wine with Charles at De Toren. Set to be released in January 2018.
Deep ruby red with notes of cassis, mushrooms and dust on the nose. A touch green as well. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus bodied. Excellent structure and finesse on the palate with dark cocoa, red cherries, pepper and minerality. Long and lingering finish. Still a baby that will need a nice decant to open up. Drink till 2027.
Merlot led blend with around 53% Merlot then around 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. — 8 years ago
Rose blend, light red wine. Lovely balanced fruits and minerality with lengths — 9 years ago
LGD departs more from the style of VC's non-vintage than any other tete-de-cuvée I can think of from a big house. This is delicate to the point of vanishing subtly and if you aren't paying attention it is easy to miss the mastery here! It is composed of 53% PN & 47% Chardonnay. Mr. DeMarville explained that this is the highest percentage of Chardonnay on record for LGD due to the warm conditions in 2006. — 9 years ago

This wine was awesome. Still soft and elegant and barely tertiary. 53 years later and still delivering. @Jason Stein we need to have this together #italianwines — 7 years ago
Delectable is wrong. 53% Syrah, 32 Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache. 100% Torrin vyd — 8 years ago
Interesting that I had the 2011 53 weeks ago. Still an awesome wine but a bit too old for my pallet but I bet it's right on for others. Great wine. — 9 years ago
Cab Franc done so well. 400 cases produced. 53% Franc and 47 Merlot. Both play well together. Some what fleshy in its approach tannins present as the Franc speaks. Nose of mashed currants and dusty roads. Mouth-coating richness of herbs de province, dash of spice and farm fresh blackberries. Finish is dense and chewy. — 9 years ago

Scents of raisin, sumac, and alcohol, accented with date, fig, and raisin flavors. The high alcohol content makes it a bit hot to taste -- and sounds off-putting, but this wine works. Really well. The per bottle price at Zaytinya reflects a 3x markup, which is fair enough, but I'd buy this over and over again at $53 to have at home with a Mediterranean themed meal. — 10 years ago

"Beautiful aromas of roasted coffee beans, wild cherries, black licorice, toasty wood, hint of cocoa and vanilla. On the palate, powerful yet elegant bodied, infused with spice, black fruits, firm tannins, long, spicy finish."

Winemaker's Notes: #53 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012 Imagine a refreshing sorbet-like medley of fresh lychee, grapefruit and honeydew melon laced with flinty minerality and finished with an infusion of mandarin and lime zest. A lively, invigorating wine with persistent grapefruit flavours and a steely blackcurrant tang – crisp but succulent with a long enduring finish. Critical Acclaim: This intriguing white delivers a complex aromatic note that includes whiffs of petrol, oolong tea, mineral and lanolin, giving way to an equally complex flavor profile. Crunchy green apple, Meyer lemon and melon flavors are refreshing, balanced, and persistent on the finish. 92 Points Wine Spectator Pale, bright yellow. Highly aromatic nose combines grapefruit rind, underripe pineapple, white pepper, fresh herbs and stony minerality. Rich, pliant and fairly full, but with a juicy sappy quality to the orange blossom and spice flavors. In a rather forward style but bright framing acidity gives it definition and thrust. Finishes with excellent length. Greywacke is the new project of sauvignon blanc guru Kevin Judd, who put Cloudy Bay on the map during his 25 years as winemaker there. 91 Points International Wine Cellar Former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd’s new label displays a vibrant pungency to its leafy aromas, then opens up on the palate to add gooseberry and grapefruit notes. It's refreshingly medium bodied, with a slightly creamy texture and a long finish filled with pink grapefruit. 90 Points Wine Enthusiast — 12 years ago
Dark, rich, and ripe on the nose: deep dark berries, sandstone-like crushed rock and a bit of baker’s chocolate. Mouthfilling and ripe. A bit too chocolatey for me, to be honest, but still a very good winter weight wine. 53% Syrah, 34% Grenache, 11% Mourvèdre, and 2% Viognier. — 7 years ago

2000 Cheval Blanc with a blend of almost 50:50 Merlot & Cabernet Franc, even though some reports say 53:47 dominate Merlot (not all CB are dominate CF). Tasted with 03, 05, 05 and I had this vintage a few years back, and I must say the tannins have come a long way- lush, almost melts into the wine. Explosion of blueberry and cassis with tarragon, smoked meats, and bark. Even though it is such a pleasure now I have a feeling it has a lot more to give. — 11 years ago

Friday night is here and I have opened the 2015 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Réserve de la Comtesse a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
The nose is is rich in dark fruit, black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black plum, mocha, tar, cedar and dark rich soil.
On the palate the dark fruit continues through with black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, licorice, oak, graphite and rich earthy notes.
This wine is full bodied with a silky mouth feel, medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that lead to a long dark fruit earthy finish. Have a great weekend, stay safe and have some nice wines. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 6 years ago
