This reminds me of 2003 Araujo Eisele CS at age 5+.

Buy as much as you can afford and then put a few extra bottles on your CC.

@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.

My guess here was ‘04-06 French champagne. I couldn’t guess a house, but I was able to rule out what it wasn’t (PH, Dom, Krug). This wasn’t reductive enough to be west coast. Balanced sweetness and yeastiness well. — 8 years ago

My first claypool (and happy it's a bottle Katy and Ross helped with!) Pobega'd this immediately and was still immediately hit with cherry fruit, but the palate is so refined despite having a heavier mouthfeel than you'd expect from the ruby color. 2008. Man, I still can't figure out why nobody cares about Coteaux Champenois except me. This is gorgeous. I actually might have pegged it for red Burgundy at first as it is thicker and heavier than Coteaux Champenois pinot tends to be. But it still has that characteristic Champenois minerality that doesn't really fit with any Burgundy I can think of, as if the wine was full of metal shavings. There's a somewhat gamy layer there too which comes out on the back end. This is really nice, not quite as graceful or weightless as some CC but still a very elegant and satisfying drink and packed with personality. — 11 years ago

A powerful rendition of CC for sure, up front to the back the tension and power are very apparent. The wine has 3 distinct phases on the palate: the attack starts with fruit that is starting to fade into maturity, the middle is where the oak takes over, while the finish is the best part thrusting the energy of the wine deep into a long finish. If anything the oak is too aggressive while the slight oxidation tells me it's starting to descend from a peak. — 10 years ago

Had called this the Dorian Gray of wine, kept getting more tannic and backwards with age...then boom, last night, a beautifully knit and rendered CC. Great aromatics, pipe tobacco, dark cherries. Tastes like a super T, sour cherry core wrapped in cedar, graphite. Loamy earth tones. Baking chocolate. Still has years to go. — 11 years ago
