Castello di Ama

Vigneto San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — 6 months ago

In 2015, the WS Top 100 meant something. To look at it the last few years it is puzzling. I recently read their website for the criteria they use to come up with their top 100 and all I could do after reading the criteria and seeing their 2024 selections is scratch my head.

@Bob McDonald first vintage of Gran Selezione ever, definitely a good start with the 2010. Great pull!

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2022

Delectable Wine
9.1

Darkly floral, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino opens with a blend of grilled herbs, exotic spices and steeped plums. It's a racy and fruit-forward effort with masses of ripe red and blue fruits swirling across a lively acidity stream. This tapers off with medium length and gently tannic, leaving a lovely resonance of inner rose. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

Castello di Monsanto

Il Poggio Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1980

A real treat to see a 34 year old Italian beauty. Dried herb and fruit. Earthy, dark dried fruits. Soft soft tannin with rounded acid. Lost its vibrancy and that bang that sucks you in. Admirable it has held up and a beautiful experience. 89 points. — 11 years ago

Light body and very "Pinot Noir" like. Bright red cherry and strawberry flavors. Mild tannins and light oak. Hint of smoke. Refreshing. Chill it a bit below cellar temp. Great story about the winery. A Mt. Etna lava flow just went around them 30 years ago. — 9 years ago
