This is the 2013 Ar.Pe.Pe Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva ‘Nuova Regina’. It’s 100% Chiavennasca and aged 39 months in cask.
It is PALE ruby in color with pronounced aromas and flavors of red and black cherry, bright raspberry, mulberry, pomegranate, purple fig, stewed strawberry rhubarb, rose, potpourri, black licorice, black tea, anise seed, fennel, tri-colored peppercorns, peat, vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg, forest floor, and mushroom.
On the palate, this wine is dry, w/ medium (+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol (13% ABV), & medium (+) tannins that are smooth and velveteen; it has a lingering finish.
It’s an outstanding wine, incredibly fresh now with runway to age & gain complexity in the bottle. — 8 months ago

Dark floral most certainly — 2 years ago
Rutabaga and charcoal and hen of the woods and cherry garcia. Yeah there is a little VA but it’s not intrusive. Maybe more wild than some of their other stuff but still that mountain freshness — 5 years ago

Nebbiolo blended with Merlot. This 2009 is just starting to mature...pubescent wine? Very bright red fruits followed by something smoky and interesting Happy #valentines — 11 years ago
Tastes better and more expensive than your average prosecco — 6 months ago
Quite light garnet , wide terracotta rim . Quite a lot of smoky sous bois, with some light red fruits, sweet dry spices , touch of hickory . On the palate this is pretty evolved and has started to dry out slightly , with some some sweet red currant , dried spices, salty acidity and resolved tannin . Ok , slate tinged finish . Drink now , and probably would have been better a few years ago . — 7 months ago
Bright juicy fun. For the price point, must buy! — 8 months ago

Best chianti, favorite so far. Had with local pizza in poconos but tastes good with any tomato base. — 5 years ago

Dry but lots of fruit. 1988 — 6 months ago
Dark red color with a copper tinge. Aromas of dark red fruit. Medium body. Entry has a hint of sweetness. Dry with dark cherry, tobacco, little coffee notes. Very bright acidity for such an old wine brings it to a perfect balance. Tannins are there, but well balanced. Excellent wine.

Wonderful acidity, well balanced fruit, a firm finish. This is top shelf Barbera and a real delight. Bravo. — 9 years ago
