Novelty Hill borrows from the ancient Latin phrase In Novale Novello, “in virgin ground I plant young vines,” for its name. I didn’t realize that there aren’t vines on the actual Novelty Hill in Washington (located about 5 miles east of Redmond). Oh well, so much for my Hill vs Hill face-off with Pritchard Hill’s Bryant Family. This 2014 Novelty Hill Cabernet Sauvignon talks some serious smack, and even brings a serious punch, but that would have been Go-Karts vs Formula One. That said, this is one hell of a Go-Kart. In the low $20s, my first comparison is to Charles Smith’s Substance Cs, and this blows the doors off that wine, and more than justifies its slightly higher price-point. Jumps out of the glass with black cherry, cassis, mocha, licorice, and a heavily spiced cranberry potpourri, while still managing to weave in a savory undertone that emphasizes the noticeable balance. Washington offers extraordinary value across the board, but this is a value even by Washington standards. 92+ — 6 years ago

This Abreu always impresses me - has so much depth and is so so smooth. I just love it. These have been aging well....but it got me thinking, and I went down a wormhole again. What's the fulcrum point? When and where should you open up a special wine? I wait on some for that special occasion, and then sometimes wait too long (which is such a bummer!!) I have a couple bottles of each of these - opinions on now or later welcome: Grace Family '02 and Bryant Family '01 — 8 years ago
Chenin blanc the only one in Naps when dad purchased the vineyards one was planted to Chenin they tore it out 2004 replanted 2005 Molly chappellet is the label only sold at the winery apple honey extract honeysuckle and bright acidity. Bought a homesteaders propery homestead 600 proprty 400 for the home real estate 300000 acre they were the only ones on the hill lovely intensity with a creamy texture long finish lovely minerality. Finish 45+? All vineyards replanted they have learned a lot so the wines keep getting better. Original 320 acres intact from Prichard. Very close to a dry vouvray. Neighbors Ovid continuum Bryant David Arthur they are 100% solar and organic the next generation will have a better piece of property. Bought next door neighbors property to protect the family but not a real estate guy so he only bought the extra 300 acres of property this is also where all of the water comes from. 120 acres of vineyard today. sister does legal work and brother oversees winery production. M and dad still around. The next generation? — 11 years ago

A Great night to say the least:
Magnum of Gargiulo money ranch road,
2000 Bryant, 25 year Macalllan. Totally forgot to post this pick from a few weeks back!
The Bryant drank as good as any French Bordeaux that I’ve ever had. The money ranch toad was mediocre in comparison and the 25 year Macallan was 2nd only to the amazing company we had in our house that night!!
Great times to say the least!

6L 1984 Ridge Monte Bello CS. DS birthday. CS flight alongside '93 Bryant. Loved this wine, but bc Bryant was bigger, this got a little overshadowed. Really loved this wine tho. — 7 years ago

I was very pleased with this choice. The fact that I had this at Bryant park in NY after a great day might have influenced that taste buds a little. — 9 years ago
Maybe better than bryant at 1/4 the price!! — 11 years ago
Bryant Family, Beringer Private Reserve, Chateau Montelena, Opus One and Ridge Monte Bello. These are 4 of the 14 California wines from 1999. — 11 years ago

Tor Kenward specialized in single vineyard CS from a few top sites, but the “Napa Valley” bottling is a blend of all the vineyards he works with. For 2014 the juice is predominantly from Melanson vineyard from Pritchard Hill, home to some of the most exquisite CS bottles in all of Napa - Chappellet, Bryant Family, Colgin, and Ovid.
Rich in black fruits but laced with red fruit freshness and elements of dusty earth, herbs, chocolate, and raisin. Luxurious mouthfeel. Broad yet precise. A refined beauty. — 6 years ago
Beautiful Pinot Noir made by Todd Alexander from Force Majeure in Washington State and Bryant Family Vineyard in Napa. This bottling comes from the Monk’s Gate Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in Oregon and only 250 cases produced.
Mix of garnet and ruby red. Layered nose with notes of leather, forest floor, baking spices, perfumes blackberries, and a touch sweet smoky. Medium tannins and acidity (6/10) and medium bodied. Quite powerful and voluptuous for a Pinot Noir. Lots of purple flowers on the palate with some blue berries, twigs, dark spices, anise, gravel and some red berries, like currants and black cherries. Long and lingering finish. Drink will 2023.
Sample provided by winemaker, retail price is $49.00. — 6 years ago
25 November 2017. Bryant & Cooper Steak House, Roslyn, NY. — 6 years ago
On the nose, creamy dark & mid red fruits, fresh purple florals and loamy soils. Palate of lean ripe fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, plum & raspberries. The tannins are dusty but grippy, raspberry cola, brown dusty soil, crushed rocks, fresh purple florals, leather, bramble, steeped fruit tea, good acidity but not a great finish. Astringent and dry. Wine is really tight at this point which is surprising for a 2012. Elizbeth Tangney is the Winemaker. She worked for L’Aventure in Paso Robles, Booker Vineyards, in St. Emillion and for Bryant before becoming their Winemaker. Aron Potts is their Consultanting Winemaker. He has his own label, Potts. He was previously the Assistant Winemaker at Kongsgaard and was the Winemaker at Château Troplong-Mondot in Bordeaux. Both shown in the photos as is their estate building and one of their vineyards. — 7 years ago
Decent Pinot. Not great. — 7 years ago
Perrier J is always a nice pear and floral sparkler. A wonderful accompaniment to a delightful Sunday Brunch at Bryant Park Grill in NYC! Lovely sunny day to boot! — 9 years ago
Old school napa.. Beautiful. - crazy to drive up and pass signs for Bryant Family and Continuum, and then enjoy wines from the same area at a fraction of the price... — 9 years ago
