Modern take on Ribera del Duero from select vineyards. The color is deep purple, indicative of the 60+ year old vine grape selection. An expressive nose with scents of black fruits, tobacco and leather. The mouthfeel is equally expressive with cherry, blackberry, oak, vanilla, and licorice. The tannings are soft for such a young Tempranillo, and it is not slander but quite the contrary, it allows for the elegant finish with finesse and length. Very exiting wine!

PS The mastermind/winemaker behind Aalto made his mark at Vega Sicilia for over 30 years. It is no surprise the wine is excellent; it will be exciting to see how the wine evolves over the next decade and how it will challenge some of the greatest wines produced in the region.

Beautiful enticing aromatics with some dark fruit (more red than black), a bit of kirsch, wet earth, leather, tobacco leaf and a exotic spice box. Evolved yet surprisingly fresh!
Quite light on the palate yet with a lot of character & presence, aetheric and airy yet with power & precision. Brilliant energy & elegance with lively acidity and mellowed, ultra fine tannins.
This is a meditation wine - I could sit with a glass of this the whole evening!

Zero pre-knowledge and I loved what I discovered. I didn’t realize this had a good nine years of age. It’s also the second Tokaji I’ve opened recently backed by Vega Sicilia. It has a golden copper hue. Concentrated syrup of sour apricots, lychee and starfruit with spiced edges. Canned fruit cocktail and cinnamon. — 5 years ago

I was a Vega virgin and this was a memorable night. More Burgundian than I expected, a rich Côte de Nuits vibe. Youthful, barely ready, but silky smooth black fruit, white flower perfume. Line of limestone minerality. Long as all get out. — 6 months ago
