1978 Chuck Hope left his job in beverage distribution, moved to Paso Robles, became a farmer, & with time became a top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led the family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from small blocks in AVAs of Paso Robles: Creston, Estrella, Adelaida, El Pomar & Willow Creek, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, lingering fruit finish. The 15% ABV was not an issue. — 6 years ago

Not only is the label right up @Bill Bender 's alley, the body of this wine is drop dead gorgeous. Holy smokes. One of the best merlots I've had in recent memory. Smoked meats, blueberry pie, elegant tannins, and a smooth full bodied finish. Excellent! Thanks Mark! — 8 years ago
