Opened up and smoothed our. Rustic and hot, just the way I like it. — 7 years ago
Good balanced, good aftertaste of this wine blow you away. Purple color reminds young Saperavi or liquid consistency in the glass, or gouache concentrate.
Small tannins, low acidic, becoming elder would be jam.
Grapes from Old vines and maceration applied. rye croutons, smoked salami in the nose. — 7 years ago
Most tanins I've ever tasted in wine — 8 years ago
Orange zest, a touch of butterscotch, lovely funkiness. Deep golden/orange color, lots of sticky lilies and a very Italian character. — 9 years ago
Enjoying this wine on Eataly's popup rooftop patio in Manhattan. Earthy, floral and incredibly smooth. Calabria huh? — 9 years ago
My first experience with Gaglioppo grapes. Awesome fruit. Mild taste. Prunes & plumes. Hints of tobacco. Off red in color; almost a brown. Well balanced. Long beautiful finish. Can't wait to explore more Calabrian wines! — 10 years ago
2011, approachable soft fruit with a Cabernet backbone. — 10 years ago
New Calabrian producer! Very Nebbiolo like. Great dusty tannin on finish. Impressive for Southern Italy. — 11 years ago
Peppery, herbal, big. Reminds of a good non Rhône Syrah. Exiting wine. Should improve over the years. — 7 years ago
We liked this wine, full bodied with a fruity bouquet. — 8 years ago
Rather dark pink. Herbs, red currant and some red gooseberry. Clean and good depth but lacking a bit focus. Hint of sweetnes on the end. — 8 years ago
Very drinkable. I spent a considerable time in Calabria near where this wine is produced. It is very typical for the region, soft but very flavorful. — 9 years ago
Amazing wine amazing company — 9 years ago
First dry red wine from Calabria. 70% Gaglioppo (Greek origin) 30% Greco Nero. Intriguing savoury nose, some herbal elements leading to a less full bodied wine than expected and of course excellent with pasta and wild boar. Love these hot climate Southern Italian wines like this and also Primitivo from Puglia. 2010 vintage. — 9 years ago

Sipping Fine Wine
Went to a tasting and they were featuring Chalk Hill, winery now owned by Bill Foley, of Foley Family Wines, who continues the traditions that Fred Furth, who founded CH in 1972. Had this ‘16 about a year ago. Rich deep straw color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits and citrus notes. On the palate ripe apple, sweet melon and lemon flavors with gentle vanilla toasty oak. Well balanced on lingering finish ending with oak and mineral notes. Aged well. Tasting Sample. — 7 years ago
