This yellow-gold wine rings the “old-style Cali” bell in all the right ways. A nose of apricots, mangoes and apples is helped along with the smell of buttered popcorn. Oak treats the palate as well, draping over the tropical fruit like a sunshade. The acidity is zesty, yet the mouthfeel tends toward creaminess due to the wine sitting on the lees for five months. The oak is a definite part of the wine, but the effect is softened enough so that it's a pleasure, not a pain. — 6 years ago
Unique to Santa Cruz, this one nearing end of life but still quite good. February 2018. — 7 years ago

I bought a 3-pack of Rhys off a friend who is on the list. Didn't disappoint. Very light and tasty. — 10 years ago

Wonderful Zin- enjoying the 2013 vintage- hint of tobacco - pairing with Salmon - Brisket- will definitely try again — 3 years ago
Another last of its kind wine as the San Mateo moved to Alesia label after this vintage. This young blend is really singing right now with bright red fruit and cedar spice and well balanced acidity. A candidate for short term aging, but the freshness of the fruit really shines now. — 6 years ago
Amazing blend that awakens every part of your tongue. — 7 years ago
In Spokane at clickerdagger A 2011 for $85. Good tasting. Loved our server. Party of 9. Wine and Titos and good friends. — 8 years ago
Ruby red in color with a nose of red fruits, leather, and spice. Nicely balanced despite the 15.8% AbV. On the palate, rich, jammy flavors of strawberry, and spices. Had this for lunch with M. at HSH.

Very well balanced! Hints of oak and blackberry. Great with a steak. — 10 years ago
Truly outstanding reductive, white flower, honey blossom, citrus, tropical notes galore and medium plus acidity. This bottle was consumed extremely quickly and I can only imagine what a few years or more of n the bottle will do to this wine. This is definitely American Grand Cru! — 5 years ago
2014 vintage. Very dark-fruited and lots of black tea. Black cherry, crabapple, black plum, dried cranberry, black tea, subtle spice, walnut husk, dried autumn leaves. Reminiscent of a good village level Gevrey-Chambertin. — 6 years ago
Kiwi claret. Can compare to a modern style classified growth Bordeaux or a Super Tuscan. 2006 and could last another decade. Nice depth and length of flavour with good acidity. Purchased at the winery in Hawkes Bay. — 9 years ago
Like seeing an old friend. First winery I ever visited (I was 5), and is always one of my favorite places to visit. Wines are better than ever and Paul Draper is simply a legend. — 10 years ago
Another NZ Sauv Blanc - again from Marlborough. Crisp, a standard bearer from the premier Sauv Blanc wine region of NZ. An elegant, well balanced white. — 10 years ago

I keep opening these too young. This has to be my favorite ceritas chard bottling. All the GC Chablis comparisons are spot on. Nose has candied lemon and tangerine, seashell, flint, and a kind of musty maritime quality. Bracingly acidic and saline. Begs for raw bar. Should continue to deepen with time. I think I have one more and will try not to touch for another 3-5 years — 2 years ago
