Checking back in on this 2010 from just about a year ago. Brought this bottle back from Alsace in the Spring of 15. Hugel was such a great visit. A ton of history there. Huge very old wooded vats with thick layers of tartaric crystals. Alsace is an area that not only had to fight off phylloxera but was also ravaged by two world wars. It's hard to find late 30's and early 40's Alsace Rieslings. The German soldiers drank most or all of them. I don't remember his name but the English gentleman who took us around that day but he had been there 30 plus years and knows their history front to back. A really nice man who is an amazing host and wealth of knowledge. As for this wine, not much has changed in a year and I'm copying over my previous notes. Lemon/lime pulp spritz, lemon bars, ripe grapefruit, grapefruit pit, ripe pineapple, white peach, green melon skin, bartlett pear, green apple, strong yellow florals, chalky minerality and beautiful acidity. Good balance and a long rich smooth finish. — 9 years ago
Ripe Bartlett and applesauce are just whispers on the nose, but dominate on the palate. Honeysuckle, spice, and cream can be found if you are looking for some complexities. This is a multilayered wine, and a good example of Pinot Grigio. — 10 years ago

Much better on the empty-stomach palette. The notes on this wine that came with the glass are, "Lemon and Sea Brine. Bright aromas are Meyer lemon zest, Bartlett pear, nectarine, fresh dough and sea brine lead to a crisp, citrusy palate of lemon, white grapefruit, and minerals in this refreshing white from the south of France." I guess I wanted a refreshing glass. — 9 years ago
N: Peach, melon, perfume
T: Oxidized unripe Bartlett pear, cotton candy, some tannins on the finish. Just a touch more acid and less residual sugar and this would have been a 10/10 — 10 years ago
This tastes like Bartlett pears smashed into river rocks. @Dominik Sona super sassy my friend! — 11 years ago
A standout at the @lastellawinery spring release, the 2014 Vivace Pinot Grigio shows grace and restores my faith in this grape.
Bartlett pears without over-sweetness, lingering finish with a hint of spice. Fantastic balance.

Great example of California Chardonnay that opts for subtelty and restraint over oaky brawn and richness. Breadth with freshness. Honeydew melon, yellow apple, ripe Bartlett pear, dogwood florals, and a bit of Meyer lemon, supported with fresh, crushed stone minerality; with a toasted coconut, vanilla and baking spice richness from well integrated and restrained new oak. Glad this return towards elegance and balance is gaining a lot of traction in California now, and Jim Clendenen is probably one of the most influential figures in that regard. Solid juice. — 10 years ago
Nose: pomacious, Bartlett pear, white flowers, stone, chalk. Palate: underripe peach, Bartlett pear, mod+ acid, chalky wet stone, no presence of oak — 10 years ago
Lemon zest and lime peel on nose, very aromatic. Jasmine, Asian spices, and lychee show as well. Palate exhibits high acid, Bartlett pear at first, finishing with riper white peach and more spices. Finish is gripping and lasting. Great pairing with spicy Schezuan. — 11 years ago
Wow. Delightful. Never had a Shiraz Viognier blend before. Flavour punch to the tongue. Full sophisticated nose. Very dark cherry and honey notes dominate. Essence of bees wax and Bartlett pear finish. Think this would pair well with a simple medium t bone — 11 years ago
Round and relatively lush with gala apple cooked Bartlett pear and touch of spice. Great showing for the price — 11 years ago
