Exactly what you want from a red wine. Fruit, a little earth, a little flesh, comforting tannins. — 7 years ago

Delicious! Drinks like a dream. Imagine this would pair well with everything. — 9 years ago
The last Old Vines Vital made by late António Carvalho. Amber in colour but fresh with great fruit and acidity. Still years to go. — 11 years ago
A lovely aged white "entry level supposed to be but no really" of great style, biodynamic production and almost last vintage of winemaker António Carvalho, who past away in 2009 - a pleasant wine that you will not find easily, only in some very specialised wine shops :) — 11 years ago
Nice bottle CS 1975, drink now. Typical BDX 70, drunk with Carlos Lopes de Lacalle. — 12 years ago
Very cool and unique wine, nice to try it again. Pears, lemons, oyster shell, crushed rocks on the nose. Beautiful salinity on the palate. A little short and one dimensional but great@expression of terroir. reminds me of a Chablis. — 4 years ago

Volcanic Verdelho do Pico (different from the Portuguese mainland Verdelho, also known as Godello in Spain) from vineyards located on 3 different islands - Pico, Graciosa and S. Miguel- in the Azores archipelago. Virtually at sea level and unusually close to the Ocean, vines grow on very poor volcanic basalt soils, surrounded by traditional stone-walled “currais” to protect them from the extreme Atlantic winds. Salty and mineral. Thirst-quenching acidity. Passion fruit. 🌋 🌋 — 7 years ago
Mafarrico (bad boy) Tinto, Douro DOC. Blackberry, evergreen, bay laurel, dried herbs on the nose, finely balanced acid-tannin palate, me-dusty, the hubby-silky mouthfeel. Brambly palate with more evergreen. Medium acidity and body, flavors linger as it rides off into a western sunset. Álvero Martinho Lopes is a terroir and dirt guy who works with Dirk Nieport. I’m surprised at the lower scores. This is what a Douro field blend is, no less than 8 different 🍇 varieties. — 7 years ago
Nice red blend. — 8 years ago

Blend of multiple indigenous varieties (Donzelinho, T. Francisca, Alvarelhão, Sousão, etc.) from old vines in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in Douro Superior (Upper Douro), not far from the Spanish-Portuguese border (La Raia, an area known for its smuggling past. Hence the name). Aged in used oak barrels for 15 months. Intense nose with aromas of dark fruit, prunes, chocolate and some spices. Powerful, full-bodied. Despite the 15% alcohol it feels quite fresh. Elegant. Polished tannins. Great at almost 10 years — 4 years ago
2018 vintage. White Alentejo blend (Roupeiro, Rabo de Ovelha, Antao Vaz, Tamarez, Alicante Branco and Arinto) by winemakers António Maçanita and Sandra Sarria. Old vines, whole bunch fermentation, no malolactic. Bright yellow. Spicy and floral with power and some complexity. Authentic and very good value. — 6 years ago
Grand Cata holiday party; pale ruby; medium intensity aromas of fresh red fruit, red cherry, red plum, red currant, blossom, subtle red apple; dry, high acid, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium minus body, medium intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium finish, light, fresh wine, delicate, a bit oxidative — 6 years ago

Fresh & juicy with crunchy black fruit and a doll, stony undercurrent. Plus just a hint of spice - allspice, cloves, anise, cinnamon. Lively & engaging.
Mid weight in the palate with bright juicy acidity, pure black fruit and slightly rustic yet v. juicy tannins. Fresh, juicy, very food friendly. Perfect match with steak frites! — 3 years ago
