Bold maneuver by Joe Swick of co-fermenting Pinot Gris & Noir results in a pleasurable puzzle of a wine, like listening to Ornette Coleman get rid of chord changes, this wines interacts w perceptions at a radical pace. The Pinot Gris actually supplies more tannic chew that buzzes on the palate while the Noir presents a folk melody structure to wrap your mind around. Pulled this wine out for Christmas...black fruit, rose petal, smoke, leather, tar, toast, cedar, toffee, and americano coffee on the nose. Palate carries smoothly through the mid palate adding pungent spice, beef blood, coconut, vanilla, and dill to the flavor profile. Very smoothly integrated chewy tannins and a long finish. Nítido rojo oscuro con tinte violáceo, propio de una cosecha reciente y una capa bien cubierta son el anticipo de las sensaciones que nos esperan en nariz y boca.
Oflativa: gran intensidad, con predominio de aromas florales y frutos rojos frescos, identifican la uva de la cual procede, se integran con el roble que aparece sutilmente muy de fondo
Gustativa: envolvente, fresco y sabroso. Gran equilibrio gracias a una buena acidez en concordancia con las percepciones dulces que posee. El tiempo redondeara ese potente tanino que aparece al final, dándole un carácter y estructura propios de esta tierra — 9 years ago

A fantastic wine. Clear, opaque wine trending towards a tawny color. Nose is a bit light in intensity with blossom, spice, white pepper, and sweet dark berries. Palate is medium bodied while the intensity of this dry wine is medium plus. Edgy berries and leafiness lead to americano coffee, baking spices, and white pepper. Caecus Reserva 2007 La denominación de origen más importante en España sigue siendo La Rioja y por eso en los estantes de tiendas especializadas y supermercados siguen teniendo amplia mayoría, aunque cada vez menos. Siempre vemos los mismos nombres y las mismas bodegas de las que ya algunos empezamos a cansarnos, pero también es muy cierto que de vez en cuando aparecen pequeños productores que nos sorprenden con un sabor conocido pero modernizado. Ese es el caso de nuestro vino de hoy, de las bodegas Pago de Larrea, situada en la famosísima localidad de El Ciego, quizás la más vinícola de la zona. Este proyecto viene abalado por la familia que en su día fue propietaria del conocido Viña Salceda y que ya hace unos años trabaja produciendo vinos elegantes y modernos con el nombre de Caecus. Caecus Reserva 2007, es un tinto elaborado con tempranillos procedentes de cepas de más de 20 años y criados en barricas de madera de roble francés y americano durante 20 meses. De edición más que limitada ya que solo se producen 6000 botellas, es un gran exponente de lo bueno que nos sigue presentando La Rioja. - NOMBRE: Caecus Reserva 2007 - BODEGA: Pago de Larrea - DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN: Rioja - TIPO DE UVA: Tempranillo - GRADUACIÓN: 14 - PRECIO: 15-20 € - NOTA DE CATA: onito color rojo intenso de capa media y ribete ligeramente anaranjado. En nariz nos sorprende primero el toque de fruta roja madura acompañada de toques especiados y un ligeramente balsámicos. Después aparecen toques achocolatados y de madera seca muy bien integrados. En boca es franco en cuanto a fruta y chocolate. Se nota un tanino maduro y bien integrado y una acidéz marcada como en los buenos Riojas que todavía tienen tiempo para evolucionar en botella. Postgusto medio y frutal más que agradable. - MARIDAJE: todo tipo de carnes y guisos así como quesos curados. - VALORACIÓN DE DVICIO: 8/10 elegante y fresco en edición limitada. — 12 years ago
