Langhe Rosso Merlot Blend

So I was recently listening to the “wine for normal people” podcast and they mentioned how a lot of the Barolo and Barbaresco producers would put leftover grapes essentially into the newer DOCs. Well I open my little wine fridge and here is this Rosso from Langhe. I thought perfect timing! Not much on the nose but beautiful deep flavors. Low acid, starts with sweeter blue fruit and builds up to vanilla-oak-leather goodness. Firm cold ripe fruit that finishes quickly. Coats the mouth. Chewy, almost ripe fruit flavors. A great everyday Italian reflecting some delicious grapes. — 7 years ago

Note di Grillo

Wonderful Sicilian natural wine! Deep gold (let’s call it light orange) in color. Hints of grilled lemons with a hint of smoke. Beautifully “funky.” A true winner! Great with appetizers! Thank you Franky Bella for this selection. — 8 years ago

Langhe Nebbiolo

Picked up a 6 pack of the Alessandro Rivetto Langhe Nebbiolo 2018 on Last Bottle Wines for $78. Not a bad deal. Elegant entry level Nebbiolo. Classic notes of tart red cherry, tar, rose, orange pekoe tea and wet earth. Medium plus acidity and ripe sweet tannins. Delicious weekday wine. — 5 years ago

Il Sole Di Alessandro Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

A cab from the land of Chianti. At 10 years old the mineral flavors rule the roost with few tannins left over. Probably the perfect time to drink it. — 8 years ago

Finally starting to strut its stuff after a sullen, dumbed down adolescence. Ripe but not fleshy as befits vintage. Tertiary notes swelling up. Definitely rebuy. — 12 years ago

Right on. I'm now wishing that all the Aussie Shiraz I bought 6/7 years ago had been Barolo. I pour mostly Brunello and Rosso at my restaurant but after having a glass of 2008 Cigliutti Serraboella with duck confit tortellini the other day I'm obsessed with Piedmont again.

I never got drug too deep into the Ozzie stuff (although, I'd love to get more Basket Press, Tyrell's Semillon, and a few vintages of Wynn's cab). Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino, Alto-Adige, and Friuli produce some of the world's most exciting wines at bros @BobbyStuckeyMS @Leviopenswine and @DoBianchi can attest. Just gotta keep on tasting! Wine is the best! Salut!
