My first Mansois, aka Fer Servadou from the tiny VDQS north of Toulouse (161 hectares /400 acres). Raspberry, brambly aromas follow through to the palate which is a bright hello that mellows softly. — 7 years ago
Tonight's bottle hails from Riverbench winery. This one's a Pinot Noir, a Pommard Clone Pinot Noir to be exact. The Pinot Noir grape hails from the great family of Pinot varietals, aka the Gris, the Blanc, the Noir, etc, The Pommard clone has found its way into California vineyards via cuttings from Pinot Noir from the Château de Pommard in France circa the 1940s. The original being the "Clone 4", and then giving birth to a daughter, the "Clone 5". The Pommard Clone 5 has slowly been making a name for itself all along the west coast, from Oregon to Southern California. It tends to deliver a meaty/gamey flavor with pure dark fruit flavors. This vintage shows a wonderful restraint and great balanced structure to deliver a wonderfully light red wine, perfect for any occasion. ~$46 | #riverbench #pinotnoir #pommard
On the eyes: Bright, clear cranberry red, med- stain, med tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Earthy, herbaceous, blood orange, and bruléed strawberry. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med acid, med tannin, med alcohol, med round body with great balance. Pleasantly tart, slightly floral with bright cranberry and blueberry, and dusty old road that yields to a memory of smoky oak. This one is drinking young and could probably do with another few years in the bottle, but I just couldn't resist a Riverbench Pinot. — 8 years ago
Beautiful Merenzao aka Trousseau aka Bastardo.
Earthy nose of dried cherry, rose petals, forest floor, lanolin, spice. Light-bodied, with excellent balance of acid, fruit, tannin and alcohol (12.5% abv). — 8 years ago

No chemicals, natural yeasts, and Demi-muids/ new wood barrels. Ruby garnet color with aromas of bacon, cherry, rose petals while silky on the palette with some herbal notes on the finish. Medium to full body. — 8 years ago

One of these Rieslings which need to be decanted! Much better the next day!!!! Flabby and flat upon opening for dinner 🍴 however next at noon - Classic fresh cut garden hose aka ⛽️. Golden color. Sour mandarin (Randgpur lime). Just great. Will cut through any food except for steak. From winebid dirt cheap as no one knows these wines. — 7 years ago
Backstory: Tasted this at the winery and loved it so much that we bought a bottle to take along with us to Mexico. Chad Melville is the owner and winemaker at Samsara. He's also the chief winegrower at Melville Winery.
Winemaking Process: Single vineyard wine with grapes harvested from the Cargasacchi vineyard, which is in the middle aka sweet spot of Santa Rital Hills. 75% whole cluster fermentation with native yeast. 50% in new French oak barrels for 22 months, followed by 12-month ageing in the bottle. Unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Colour is ruby red with some clarity, no sediment. On the nose, it has blue fruit, cherry, cassis, cigar, asphalt, lambskin leather and pronounced earthy notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with full, mouth-filling texture. Red fruit notes appear first, and then the taste turns into an earthy, allspice notes, and finishes off with something so bright and refreshing that reminds us of orange peel. The tannins are soft. End palate is long, around 10 seconds, marked by minerality and cherry. I love this wine because unlike many Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara, it isn't over extracted and not too sweet (like fruit pastille). There's a fleeting burst of sweet red fruit flavour on the mid palate and the flavour quickly transits to earthy notes and tannins. It's a more earthy Pinot Noir but yet still elegant and ready to be consumed. At $55, I think it's well worth the price. — 8 years ago
Steve Peck- If Paso Robles had a sister city among European wine regions, it could very well be Jumilla, Spain. Both are known for 50 degree diurnal temperature swings and calcareous soils. The wines are incredibly ripe and juicy if this example from Gil Family is typical. 70% Monastrell (aka, Mourvèdre), 30% Cabernet. This wine walks the line between the unctuous Rhone genre and the tightness of Bordeaux. Huge fruit volume with a rounded palate. Label declares 16%, but you would never guess it. I'm impressed. — 8 years ago
Excellent wine to enjoy and thoughtfully analyze ...balanced all around with the perfect touch of old world charm aka brett — 8 years ago

Very approachable on night two, with very little variation from yesterday. Same food pairing, aka leftovers, and I would say an ever so slight improvement. Very impressed in general and especially at this price point! — 6 years ago
