King Family Vineyards

Monticello Merlot 2012

Solid effort from a classic, even tempered vintage…this likely spent approx 8 mon in barrel, and the downward slope is evident of less tannic input. Nevertheless, and a nice stewed red fruit core is delish as a sipper or with lighter proteins. Acids have waned a bit to far for serious food cleanup. Our house made Thai coconut beef curry soup was even a little too much, but it still was delicious to have in between long bites and afterwords with Keylime pie. This is my aging/cellar project… Learn how vintages and terroir match with winemaking and longevity. Lesson learned here… as the 2010 is the benchmark of a plus Merlot from the Monticello AVA. The 2010 is twice the wine that this is… Emphasizing the quality of the vintage vis-à-vis 2012 — 3 years ago

Fantini

Calalenta Rosato 2018

a rose i bought from a small importer that brings mostly fantini wines who make wines in a lot of 🇮🇹 regions.

calalenta means 'night harvest'... so romantic
as the gorgeous bottle is.

12% ABV

pale pink 👀

melon, Peach as it gets warmer, lemon zest and honey cookies. subtle greeness all along👃

medium +body.
medium + acidity.

stone fruit, very ripe strawberries, citrus oil and white pepper. and those fresh herbs hiding somewhere in the back. no sweetness available👄

pleasent tingling medium 🎯

a well made rose.
balanced, complex and very enjoyable.
as it warmed up in the glass it changed completely.
at room temperature it was a raw, acidic yet pleasant wine.

great vfm (85 nis)

while having 🍕@ my parents in law i was too afraid to open a weird, cheap, hiding in the back cabin cab they had.
this came as a digestive afterwords while watching a funny French movie back home.

would probably work great with assorted cheeses and/or some nuts and crackers

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

KBM
9.3

Tight at first and then loosens up very nicely. Tingles at the finish and you still feel it well afterwords. You ask, is this love or is it lust? Before you can answer, you go for a second sip. — 7 years ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1999

One of those odd vintages of Yquem. A fabulously restrained expression of botrytis, with an intensely honeyed nose and cutting yet poised acidity. Very long indeed. However, there is a faint, dry, almost tannic bitterness on the very end palate that sours the experience ever so slightly. Like being invited to experience the tasting menu at El Bulli and realising that you have to do the washing up afterwords. — 8 years ago
