Gorgeous nose of crushed black fruits, wet stone and herbs that keeps developing into fig and dark chocolate. Lively with integrated tannins. Restrained and well balanced. Lovely wine from a region I love. — 9 years ago
What a discovery, at $20 a bottle this is a massive deal on quality. Berries, Plum, Spices but above all, a perfect balance between sweetness (not overpowering ) and alcohol , an excellent price-quality ratio — 9 years ago
Crown Royal's Northern Harvest Rye is NOT standard Crown Royal fare. Northern Harvest Rye is leaps and bounds above any other Crown Royal product I’ve tasted.
Aromas of toasted nuts, pepper, burnt sugar, cloves and cinnamon waft up from the glass. It’s nice, complex, and a touch sweet.
The flavor mirrors the scent, but the pepper notes are dialed back. It’s a soft and smooth rye, not harsh, peppery nor astringent like some can be. A touch of biscuit (think cream cracker) is present in the flavors and it brings to mind a fine bourbon.
The finish is long, warm, and sweet. I’m pleased and surprised.
But unlike Jim Murray, I cannot say this is the best whiskey I’ve had all year. I’m not even sure it’s the best new offering I’ve had all year. Still: it's fantastic. — 9 years ago
1980 edition bottled in 2013. An absolutely exceptional Port at a very good price. — 10 years ago
A very robust and smooth wine — 10 years ago
Perfect tokaji to ring in the new year. Honey, apricot and a bit of citrus at the end — 10 years ago
Funky with some fruit—a spatburgunder made with zweigelt and a Cab grapes. Yes please — 6 years ago
Honeyed and peachfully peaceful, a dry tokaji. — 7 years ago
Finally had a lil taste of this thing. Dang! — 8 years ago
Great sparkling wine. Tasting notes provide good description. Moderate body. A bit pricey. — 9 years ago
Beautiful light salmon color. Aromas of strawberries and honeysuckle. Fine effervescence, a berry background, and a vague minerality. — 9 years ago
More mature than I expected. Also a sort of earthiness on the finish making it less intensely sweet than might be expected, still packed full of treacle and butterscotch and fudge and all sorts of yummy things, and very long finish. — 10 years ago
Very dark, rich, a bit of an acidic bite. — 10 years ago
Forgot to take a photo before giving the bottle to Ray... — 10 years ago
Excellent with a steak! Little hot. Little spicy. Loved it! — 10 years ago
Fine Porto, very delicate, apero Joao & Mel a& Ben — 11 years ago
It was a gift, never saw it in a store. — 7 years ago
Youthful so the sweetness and acidity are not yet fully harmonized. Good botrytis character on the nose with lemon, pineapple and apricot. These expand on the palate with a bit of toffee and resin. It's a lovely wine that needs another 3 or 4 years to really show it’s stuff and then it will live for much longer — 7 years ago
I rarely drink Porto, but man, this was a gem!! — 8 years ago
The "vintage" is the bottling year. Lovely dark fruit, (figs, raisins, plums) along with some molasses sweetness. Sweet Mother makes a pronounced guest appearance. She's always welcome.
Update: she's been hanging out on my counter and has opened up, exposing even more raisiny dark fruit delightfulness. Sweet Mother has been blended nicely into its fold of tasty happiness. To quote a great wine aficionado, smiling on a Monday is better than not smiling. Go Tigers! — 8 years ago
Novelty Hill and Januik share wineries out of Woodinville, WA. Both wineries are managed by Mike Januik and specialize in premium varietal clones. The Columbia Valley AVA is the largest AVA in Washington State. Even though Washington is much further north than California, the peak ripening in most grapes occurs slightly later than CA. This one is a kitchen sink wine, that is predominately Merlot (59%) but also contains Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Sangiovese, and Mourvèdre. Someone must have thought this one was past its prime, but I feel like the drinkability continues - picked up at Total Wine. ~$17 | #noveltyhill #columbiavalley #totalwine
On the eyes: Deep rusty red, bright and clear, med+ stain, med+ tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Funky stewed blueberry, black cherry, raspberry, with a hint of hay, and earthy mustiness. Med+ alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ acid, med tannin, med+ alcohol, med+ body. Stewed black cherry and raspberry, raisin, white pepper, hint of spice, licorice, and woodsy finish. Tart on the way down, nice long finish. — 9 years ago
Spicy, medium. Not bad for a cheaper wine. — 10 years ago
Lush and a little sweet. Big white. — 10 years ago
Got to sample this spontaneously today. Found it very easy to drink and full of aromas. At first I thought it was going to be as similar as their Maple Whiskey, but I was pleasantly surprised on how approachable and 'not one/two-sided this was. To my SWS rep. Great job. That's how you get me behind a product. Apple Blossom here we come and we're gonna sell tons of this. SWS509 $18 — 10 years ago
loved the funky mushroom flavor and yes it was a little like cider. overall a good refreshingly different flavor. I'd drink it again. — 10 years ago
True orange and honey color. Profound nose! Very polished array of soft scents. Honey, tangerine, sugar cane, creme brulee. Honey-like texture, carrying incredibly polished and harmonious medley of flavors. Bee polen. Royal jelly, tangerine, subtle sawercrawd, toffey flavors. Very unique and cultivated and educated like a young scholar. Nerdy sweet. Very inmense development on the ending. For a wine that holds a 100 pt. score. 95 pts. from me. — 11 years ago

I first have to note that I tend to like sweet wines. On the nose it had notes of ripe stone fruit and if you can smell honey it would be there as well. Now the tasting is where this wine shines. The “Noble Rot” is there in its full glory! The sweetness is not over the top. I happened to have this wine with a spiced pork roast with a nice layer of fat and this wine matched up lovely with it. Back to the flavor profile, you have the ripe stone fruit and honey notes. You will enjoy this wine. — 6 years ago
